The good kind of slimy
You will probably recognize the logo and know the name, but did you know that Slime was created right here in San Luis Obispo County? Since its creation in 1989, the most widely distributed tire sealant in the world has found its home on the Central Coast and most recently, after a growth spurt, inside the city limits. Find out from Chris Auerbach, the company’s CEO and general manager, how they were able to achieve success and be distributed in over 50,000 retail outlets worldwide. |

Changing the world, one step at a time
Akash Salam is not your average high school junior. A native of Bangladesh, Salam came to the U.S. when he was eight but has never forgotten where he came from or what he left behind. He returns home every summer with the dream of making a difference and, step by step, he is. Salam will be with us to share his vision of building a school in his hometown and how he is working to achieve his goal. |

Smart phones, Smarter employers
Nearly one-third of Americans have smart phones. The percentage is even higher in the workforce. With the 2012 labor laws now in place employers need to be aware of potential problems when supplying their employees with smart phones. Several issues will be discussed, including reaching employees outside the workday and calling employees while driving, among others. Kathy Eppright, principal with Andre, Morris & Buttery, will help employers know what we should know. |

Budget cuts that hit home
With a state budget that has to be trimmed by $11.2 billion, all cuts will be hard to bear and every county in California will feel the pain. One proposed closure is the California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI) at Camp San Luis, where 70 percent of the state’s emergency management personnel and first responders receive training for emergency response, criminal justice and hazardous materials. In addition, it generates over $5 million annually to the local economy. Col. William Hatch, Director of CSTI, will be here to share the current status of the program and what we can do to help.
