SUMMARY:FINE ART CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING
DESCRIPTION:Jarien de Ham began Chinese brush painting in 2002 with a class offered at Cuesta College. Bird and Flower painting\, one of the four genres of Chinese painting\, drew her in. Then came Calligraphy and classes in China that covered Landscape and Figure painting. While we are a long way from China here on the Central Coast\, many elements revered in China are here — cypress trees with their irregular balance\, foggy atmosphere\, fish and birds which are subjects of her paintings.

SUMMARY:FINE ART DRAWING
DESCRIPTION:Linda likes to draw inspiring natural scenes—coastal panoramas\, oak covered hillsides\, flowers and wildlife. While she’s always enjoyed drawing and art\, she learned to draw well while studying landscape architecture in college. In 1998\, she began focusing her artistic efforts on colored pencil drawing and has slowly built up her portfolio. \nEach picture takes about 20 to 25 hours to complete\, depending on the complexity of the background. She starts with a line drawing\, slowly building up multiple layers of color to achieve the depth and intensity she’s looking for. Linda lives with her family in the mountains between Morro Bay and Atascadero.

SUMMARY:Rabobank Presents Arroyo Grande Summer Concert Series with a Zongo All Stars Dance Party
DESCRIPTION:The 2017 Arroyo Grande Village Summer Concert Series kicks off with regional favorites the Zongo All-Stars on Sunday\, June 11th. Join your friends at 1:00pm at the Rotary Bandstand in the Village of Arroyo Grande for this great dance show featuring infectious “CaliCubano” music. Activities during the day will spotlight the concert sponsor the Scott Astrosky Agency (Farmers Insurance) and the featured nonprofit organization the Arroyo Grande Recreation Children in Motion Program Program. The Arroyo Grande Village Summer Concert Series\, now in its 12th Season\, is known for presenting the most eclectic and diverse musical offerings of all the regional summer series. A fun raffle\, food\, drinks and free tours of historical buildings in Heritage Square Park are also always available. This free Series is presented by the Arroyo Grande Village Improvement Association and the City of Arroyo Grande Recreation Services Department. Rabobank again joins these organizations as the Featured Series Sponsor. \nVoted BEST LOCAL BAND in SLO County FOR 2 YEARS IN A ROW\, the Zongo All-Stars have been lighting up dance floors all over the Central Coast with their unique blend of Afro-Latin / Afro-Caribbean / Funk / Reggae / Calypso music that they like to call “CaliCubano”. The band’s foundation starts with the drums; then add in congas\, timbales\, and other percussion. They round out the rhythm section with top talent on electric bass & electric guitar. Melodic elements come from a strong horn section\, featuring trumpet\, alto\, tenor\, and bari saxes\, flutes\, and the sweet sound of the steel drum transporting you straight to the Caribbean for a hot\, fun\, and exciting music & dance experience! Zongo All-Stars is a Central Coast staple in the live music & fun business\, playing at select outdoor festivals\, concert houses\, corporate events\, weddings\, and other private parties. Check out its website: www.zongoallstars.com for a complete schedule and more info about the band. \nThe featured nonprofit organization for this concert is the Arroyo Grande Recreation Children in Motion Program Program. The Children’s Services programs serve children from preschool through 6th grade. Annual Children in Motion Programs include a Summer Day Camp at Elm Street Park as well as before and after school child care. This award winning program has a 30 year history of providing high quality childcare to local families. Details for all these programs are outlined in the Activity Guides which are printed several times a year and available at the AG City Hall and at the AG Recreation Services Department at 1221 Ash Street (at Elm St.) in Arroyo Grande. \nThis show’s concert sponsor is the Scott Astrosky Agency. Scott is your home town Farmers® agent in Arroyo Grande. Scott helps customers make sure their insurance experience is the best possible. Premium price is always important\, but not at the expense of coverage or customer service. His Agency prides itself with the personalization for those they serve while ensuring positive results. Scott has the knowledge and experience to help customers protect what is important to them – whether that’s their loved ones\, business\, home\, autos and more. He has been a proud member of this community for almost 20 years and is thankful for the opportunity to protect his clients. \nEmployees from the overall series sponsor Rabobank will be on hand at the show. Rabobank has supported the Village Summer Concert Series since its inception in 2006 and its charming representatives greet concert attendees at every show with smiles\, free waters and surprises! Major media sponsors for the 2016 Series are KSBY-TV\, Big Big SLO\, the Five Cities’ new radio station (KYXZ 107.9FM – “Excellent Radio”) and the family of Tolosa Press papers: the Coast News\, the SLO City News and the Bay News. \nThese free summer concerts are held at the Rotary Bandstand in Heritage Square Park from June through September. The South County Historical Society’s famous all beef hot dogs\, Doc Burnstein’s ice cream\, popcorn\, drinks and more are available at the shows. Special raffles benefitting the Featured Nonprofit Organizations and various displays will further enliven the concerts. Music fans can also explore Heritage Square Museums\, antique shops and restaurants in the historic Arroyo Grande Village. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs\, blankets and their friends and neighbors to enjoy the afternoons under the sun! Refer to www.facebook.com/AGVillageConcerts and AGVillageConcerts.com or call 805-473-2250 for more information on the Village Summer Concert Series and the VIA’s other community events.
