SUMMARY:Canzona Women's Ensemble Concert "Songs From Distant Lands"
DESCRIPTION:Canzona Women’s Ensemble will present its annual fall concert\, “Songs from Distant Lands”\, at San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church on Sunday\, November 5 at 3:00pm. Tickets range in price from $10 to $30 and may be purchased on BrownPaperTickets.com \n“Songs from Distant Lands” is inspired by exotic locales including India\, the Middle East\, the Balkans\, the Baltic and Tibet. The rich poetry and culture of these faraway places come alive in settings by a variety of international composers. From Behind the Caravan: Songs of Hâfez is the centerpiece of the program and features Barbara Spencer\, cello\, and Keeth CrowHawk\, Persian-style percussion. Minnesota composer Abbie Betinis evokes the mythical sense of the 14th century poetry with her arresting setting of these four lyric Persian poems by Hâfez. \nCanzona holds a unique place in the community as a champion of choral music for women’s voices.  The non-profit is a selective auditioned ensemble that includes 24-28 women from around the county.  Their mission is to further a love and appreciation for women’s choral literature\, to expand this literature by commissioning original pieces\, and to present the music with consistent excellence.
