SUMMARY:SLO County Band to Present its Annual Benefit Concert for the SLO Homeless
DESCRIPTION:SLO County Band to Present its 23rd Annual Benefit Concert for SLO Homeless Foundation on November 12th\nProgram Entitled “A Folksy Shade of Blue” will be presented at the Mount Carmel Lutheran Church in SLO\nConcert Series Has Contributed More Than $40\,000 to Local Homeless Efforts Over the Past Two Decades! \nThe San Luis Obispo County Band is presenting its 23rd Annual Benefit Concert for the Homeless on Sunday\, November 12\, 2017. This 3 PM show will be presented at the Mount Carmel Lutheran Church in San Luis Obispo. The band’s goals for this concert are two-fold: to raise funds for the local Homeless Foundation of SLO (40Prado effort) and to provide attendees with an enjoyable afternoon of music. All concert attendee donations and Thrivent Financial matching funds will benefit the SLO Homeless Foundation. This year’s concert proceeds will bring the annual concert’s total homeless contributions to over $40\,000 through the past 22 years! \n“A Folksy Shade of Blue” is the concert’s theme. Director Leonard Lutz has selected a great program of new and traditional music; from an exciting new version of the Star Spangled Banner\, to The Invincible Eagle march by Sousa. Program highlights include thematic songs such as The Blue Ridge\, The Shady Grove\, and Blue Mambo. Exciting new pieces will be Wonderworld\, Legacy\, and Images of Spain. Broadway fans will enjoy The 42nd Street Overture. Dixieland lovers will appreciate Just A Closer Walk and for classics fans there will be Alfred Reed’s Russian Christmas Music for Symphonic Band. \nThe San Luis Obispo County Band’s roots extend back to 1874. Throughout its existence\, the SLO County Band has provided traditional band music for the community\, playing for a wide variety of civic and patriotic events throughout the county. This 23rd Annual Benefit Concert demonstrates the Band’s longterm commitment to public service through the performance of band music. Band members come from throughout the County. All area musicians (rusty or not!) are welcome to join the Band and auditions are not required. Weekly rehearsals take place at the SLO High School Band Room on Thursday evenings from 7-9 pm. \nThe concert venue will be the Mount Carmel Lutheran Church\, 1701 Fredericks Street\, San Luis Obispo. A minimum donation of $10 per person is requested at the door. All donations (tax-deductible)\, plus Thrivent Financial matching funds\, will go to the 40 PRADO Project of the Homeless Foundation of SLO County (a 501(c)(3) non-profit\, 40prado.org ). These funds will be used for homeless shelter operations or for its 40 Prado Road Building Program.
