SUMMARY:Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery’s ‘Dwelling’ Exhibit at Cuesta College
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, Cuesta College’s Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery will host an exhibit that explores domestic space\, personal objects\, and the concept of ‘home’ through a series of cyanotype work. Artist Emily Gui’s “Dwelling\,” runs June 21-July 22 and features altered photographs and drawings that blur the lines between truth and fantasy.\n“Until the mid-1900s\, the photographic process of cyanotype was used primarily as a means for reproducing architectural drawings\, giving these plans the name ‘blue-print\,’” said Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery Coordinator Emma Saperstein. “Gui takes the process-focused work and draws largely on its own history\, but simultaneously pushes the medium experimentally. The exhibit juxtaposes photographs collected from a range of deliberate locations – museums\, junk stores\, stranger’s homes – to display personal space with commercial\, mass-produced ones. Gui seeks to understand how rooms and houses are built to be functional\, yet also made to be full of emotion and memory.”\nEmily Gui is an experimental printmaker and mixed-media artist living in San Francisco. She works primarily in cyanotype and often pushes the boundaries of traditional printmaking techniques by layering and combining materials and processes. Gui has exhibited in galleries throughout New York and the Bay Area\, including the International Print Center of New York\, Wayfarers\, ArtBridge\, BCB Gallery\, Rojas + Rubensteen\, NIAD\, Artist’s Television Access and The Kala Gallery. This spring she travelled to Maui\, HI\, and Jönköping\, Sweden\, for artist residencies and to teach workshops in printmaking. Gui cofounded the Collaborative Arts Mobility Project\, an annual experimental artist’s residency\, entering its fourth season. She has been an artist-in-residence at Kala Arts Institute since 2015 where she teaches silkscreen and cyanotype. Gui also teaches at the UC Berkeley Art Studio and for the Continuing Education Department at City College of San Francisco. Gui received her B.A. in Studio Arts from Bard College in 2012. For more information\, visit www.emilygui.com.\nThe Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery is located on the San Luis Obispo campus of Cuesta College in room 7170. For information on hours\, please call (805) 546-3202 or email gallery@cuesta.edu.

SUMMARY:SLOPE Paints Highway 46 West Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County launched a campaign in 2017 to preserve over 5\,000 acres of wildlife habitat and ranch land along the Highway 46 West Corridor. San Luis Outdoor Painters for the Environment (S.L.O.P.E.) are enthusiastically supporting this effort. \nS.L.O.P.E. will exhibit approximately 30 paintings at Castoro Cellars Gallery which highlight the beauty and character of Highway 46 West\, highlighting Spring views including views from private property owners who are supportive of the Land Conservancy project. \nThe Highway 46 West corridor is iconic and historic. Few would dispute that the 15-mile-long stretch of highway\, also known as Green Valley Road\, is one of the most beautiful drives in California\, if not the world. It connects Highway 101\, in sleepy little Templeton\, to Highway 1 at the Pacific coast between the charming towns of Cambria and Cayucos. Along the way one sees oak woodlands\, both large vineyards and boutique wineries\, and finally vast panoramic ocean views from multiple turn outs over rolling hills toward Morro Bay to the south and Cambria to the north. This is truly quintessential Central California. \nNot so obvious are the natural plants and thousands of species of birds\, insects\, reptiles and mammals; along with the steelhead trout swimming up the streams that already call this home. \nThis land belongs to the mother bobcat\, raising her young. To the golden eagle perched in a golden Sycamore. To the woodpecker carefully storing acorns in an ancient oak tree. Many more native homes will be made here as climate change forces California’s wildlife to migrate north. \nIn fact\, Highway 46 West represents the southern edge of a crucial wildlife corridor\, stretching from Cerro Alto to Big Sur. The opportunity is now\, to protect these wildlife ranges\, to make sure that the mother bobcat still has a place to raise her young and the golden eagle can still leave its perch to soar through clean skies. \n\nAcclaimed San Luis Outdoor Painters for the Environment/S.L.O.P.E. features some of our region’s top landscape artists\, who use their art for awareness\, funding and education about Central Coast’s treasured open space\, ranches\, farmland and wildlife. \nA portion of the proceeds from sales of this artwork from these events will benefit The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo in this most important campaign to preserve this uniquely beautiful and bounteous section of California. \nPlease save these dates to enjoy our paintings showing the richness of our section of California.

His current single\, “Round Here Buzz”\, that is climbing the top of the charts now\, follows his anti-hate single “Kill A Word” which AXS called\, “one of the most important singles” Church has put out and the GRAMMY-nominated “Record Year\,” which Rolling Stone dubbed “the most moving moment” on the widely lauded album. RIAA Platinum-certified “Record Year” hit the top of the charts making seven No. 1s for “one of the brightest lights in any genre” (Vulture). \nChurch embarked on his cross-continent\, 60+-city Holdin’ My Own Tour in 2017 that was named the No. 1 most attended music tour in the world at the time of the tour by Pollstar. The double-set/sans-opener show that gave fans 3+ hours of pure Eric Church sold out every stop\, consistently staying on Billboard’s Country Boxscore chart despite cancelling more than 33\,000 tickets listed on the secondary market in an effort to reduce ticket scalper activity. The tour hit major markets including New York\, Los Angeles\, Chicago\, Boston and Philadelphia and ended with a two-night run in Nashville\, Tenn. breaking Bridgestone Arena’s attendance record the first night and topping himself to set a new record the second. \nThe man New York Times said produces songs that insist music is “fuel for love\, for anguish and\, naturally\, for other music” most recently earned the 2017 ACM Merle Haggard Spirit Award\, 2016 CMA Album of the Year Award for Mr. Misunderstood and the 2016 ACM Music Video of the Year Award for the album’s first title-track single. \nThe North Carolina native’s previous album\, The Outsiders\, debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and Top Country Albums Chart with the highest debut and sales of any release in the format that year\, making Church 2014’s top-selling country music artist. The album garnered GRAMMY\, CMA and ACM Album of the Year nominations and featured his No. 1 hits “Give Me Back My Hometown” and “Talladega\,” as well as multiple nominee “Like A Wrecking Ball.” The Outsiders was the follow-up to Church’s 3x Platinum-certified CHIEF\, named the 2012 Album of the Year by both CMA and ACM\, and GRAMMY-nominated for Best Country Album. The LP featured five Top 20 singles: “Homeboy” (certified Platinum for sales in excess of one million); the Top 10 “Like Jesus Does” and the Top 5 “Creepin’” (both certified Platinum); and two No. 1 hits “Drink in My Hand” (certified Platinum) and “Springsteen” (certified Double Platinum for sales in excess of 2 million singles). Church’s sophomore album\, Carolina\, (2009) is RIAA Platinum certified and his 2006 debut album\, Sinners Like Me is RIAA Gold certified. \nThe Cadillac Three will bring their Southern Rock sound and Nashville roots to the California Mid-State Fair for the very first time. Their latest album\, LEGACY\, was released last fall to critical acclaim and features the band’s most infectious single to date: the woozy sing-along “Dang If We Didn’t”. \nThe 2018 California Mid-State Fair runs July 18-29 and this year’s theme is “Ole\, It’s Fiesta Time!” Connect with the California Mid-State Fair on Facebook\, Instagram\, Twitter and Snapchat. \nSpecial Guest: The Cadillac Three\nThe Cadillac Three will bring their Southern Rock sound and Nashville roots to the California Mid-State Fair for the very first time.
