SUMMARY:Scary Poppins at The Great American Melodrama
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: Wednesday through Friday at 7 p.m.\, Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m.\, and Sunday at 6 p.m. \nIt’s Super-Nanny-Gone-Ballistic-Expialidocious! The Great American Melodrama presents the hilarious musical spoof Scary Poppins\, opening September 20. \nScary Poppins tells the story of Jack and Jill Peabody (Ben Abbott and Annali Fuchs-Wackowski) who live in London with their widowed father\, Professor Peabody (Jeff Salsbury). He’s a nutty inventor with little time for his children. When he hires a nanny\, though\, the whole family gets more than they bargained for: instead of Mary Poppins\, they get her twin sister\, Scary Poppins! This Poppins is a frightening creature who arrives with creepy music\, mind control powers\, and a host of wacky friends. But when the evil Russian ambassador (Billy Breed) shows up\, it’s up to Scary to save the day. Written by Ben Millet\, with direction and choreography by Eric Hoit\, this show is full of outrageous characters\, hilarious song satires and pop culture references. It’s a “practically perfect” parody for the whole family! \nFollowing each performance of Scary Poppins is the Halloween Party Vaudeville Revue. It’s no trick\, this new revue is a treat! The talented performers of the Melodrama are hosting a special Halloween costume party. Everyone is invited to hear them sing spooky favorites\, tell corny jokes\, and dance the night away! The new revue is a hilarious send up the Halloween season. Rachel Tietz directs and Michael Wilkins provides musical direction and accompaniment. \nThe Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $21 to $28\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. For more information and to purchase tickets\, call the Melodrama Box Office\, at 805-489-2499\, or visit www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975.

SUMMARY:Cal Poly and Industry Leaders to Host Hackathon at California Cybersecurity Institute
DESCRIPTION:Cal Poly’s California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI) will host a hackathon focused around the “internet of things\,” sponsored by security and technology industry leaders Arlo\, Cisco and Bugcrowd\, Nov. 4 at Camp San Luis Obispo. \nCal Poly students will compete against skilled “white hat” hackers from government organizations and the cybersecurity industry at the hackathon in “Red Team vs. Blue Team” training exercises. The CCI will also showcase a mock city complete with a staged hospital and business that participants will hack into and protect during the training scenarios. \n“With an increasingly interconnected world\, crime has moved onto gaming platforms\, smart TVs\, vehicles and other home appliances\,” said James Baker\, CCI interim director of industry outreach. “Cyber criminals are now exploiting the multiple vulnerabilities of millions and millions of connected devices that comprise the giant network referred to as the internet of things. The Red Team vs. Blue Team will demonstrate to the general public how a public network may be attacked through the proverbial ‘front door.’” \nThe public is invited to attend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 4 to witness the competition and explore the mock Internet of Things City\, which demonstrates how the internet of things affects every part of our daily lives. \n“The looming cyber threats facing organizations as well as private citizens with the internet of things is serious\,” CCI Program Director Martin Minnich said. “The hackathon shows that through public and private partnerships\, we can solve real-world problems in real time cheaper and faster than previously thought possible.” \nThe hackathon will take place at the CCI located on-base at Camp San Luis Obispo. At the hackathon\, Cal Poly students from the White Hat Club and IT professionals from the public and private sector will work together to discover new ways to identify\, isolate and remediate critical vulnerabilities in this new internet of things platform. \n“As the leader in crowdsourced security\, we take our responsibility to fill the growing number of empty cybersecurity positions around the world very seriously\,” Bugcrowd CEO Ashish Gupta said. “In order to make this a reality\, it’s critical that we engage the next generation. Our work with Cal Poly and the hackathon is an important part of this mission.” \nFor more information on the hackathon\, contact James Baker at jbaker30@calpoly.edu or 805-756-2948. Attendees must register to access Camp San Luis Obispo. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hack-a-thon-by-bugcrowd-arlo-cisco-cal-poly-cci-tickets-50798318137. \n  \n  \nAbout the California Cybersecurity Institute \nThe CCI is a robust\, multi-agency effort to protect California from future cyberthreats through training and research for government\, academia\, military\, law enforcement\, first responders and private entities. The CCI’s digital range differentiates its training program from others by creating immersive\, scenario-based exercises on issues including next-generation cloud computing\, anti-human trafficking\, healthcare\, critical infrastructure and vehicular vulnerabilities. Learn more at www.cci.calpoly.edu. \n  \nAbout Bugcrowd \nBugcrowd\, a leader in crowdsourced security\, manages the bug bounty programs of industry-leading organizations including Mastercard\, Tesla\, and Fitbit. These companies rely on Bugcrowd’s vulnerability disclosure and bug bounty programs because they find seven times as many critical vulnerabilities as traditional testing. Learn more at www.bugcrowd.com. \n  \nAbout Arlo \nArlo is dedicated to one simple yet fundamental need we all share: to protect and connect with the people and places we love. Whether it’s our kids\, our pets\, our grandparents\, our packages\, our neighborhoods\, our schools or our shops\, we can’t be everywhere we want to be at the same time. Arlo makes it all amazingly simple to keep an eye on everything we love and be there when we can’t. Learn more at www.arlo.com. \n  \nAbout Cisco \nCisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) powers the world’s Internet experiences. Cisco securely connects people\, processes\, data and things to enable innovation that benefits business and society. Learn more at www.cisco.com.
