SUMMARY:The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery Presents: BRENT DICKINSON: BABBLING OBJECTS: AN INDOOR EARTH WORK
DESCRIPTION:BRENT DICKINSON: BABBLING OBJECTS:\nAN INDOOR EARTH WORK \nNovember 8 – December 5\, 2018\nOpening Reception: November 8\, 2018 at 4:30pm to 7:30pm\nArtist Talk in room 6304 at 5:30pm\n\nBrent Everett Dickinson is a multi-disciplinary conceptual artist and writer based in Los Angeles.  He has presented exhibitions\, performances and screenings of his work around the US\, Canada and Europe including the Essl Museum\, Vienna; Socrates Sculpture Park\, NYC; and the Cornerstone Music Festival\, Chicago. \nIn 2017\, Dickinson founded the Marcel Maus Hermeneutical Think Tank which operates as a Deleuzean machine\, working to interrupt\, antagonize and decontextualize Dickinson’s solo work. \nDickinson’s work utilizes a radical entanglement of Christian theology\, critical theory\, and experimental comedy to explore properties and structures of meaning formation. Dickinson is an associate professor of art at Azusa Pacific University and recently completed a short film titled “Transfiguration on Forked River Mountain.” \nhttps://www.brenteverettdickinson.com/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Softec Presents Technology and the Media
DESCRIPTION:Today\, the media is more fragmented\, biased\, and less reliable than ever before. The harsh reality is that our world has been permanently altered because of the proliferation of information for so many sources. Twitter\, Buzzfeed\, Info Wars\, Reddit\, Snapchat\, Facebook\, YouTube and a short attention span has changed the way we consume our ‘news of the day.’ It wasn’t until 2016 that the term ‘fake news’ even existed. Now a day rarely goes by that someone isn’t using the term. \n  \nGuy Rathbun is a veteran in the business and an active participant in ‘guerrilla media’ and podcasts. While anyone with a smartphone can post a tweet or start a podcast\, with this new sense of freedom comes a new level of responsibility. \n  \nGuy will touch on technology and techniques you can adopt when you are ready to add your own voice to the mix. This will be a TechBrew you won’t want to miss. \n  \nOur invited guest Guy Rathbun began his career in broadcasting as a field reporter for a commercial radio station in 1975 and was appointed to News Director four years later. During that time he volunteered at a local public radio station\, and in 1982 I was hired at KCBX as a part-time announcer. The offer of a full-time Music Director came in 1985. Then in 1986\, Guy was promoted to Program Manager\, a position he held until October 2011. He also has a passion for radio drama (even though it attracts 1% of the radio audience) and has produced 50+ full-length dramas including 22 Shakespeare plays. \n  \nAs usual\, attendance is free\, but we would LOVE for you to register as a contributor: Become a Caloric Contributor for $20 you we’ll give you a shout out at the event. \n  \nWe look forward to seeing you on Monday! \n  \nDon’t forget to bring your business cards for our monthly raffle. \n  \nWhen? Monday\, November 12\, 2018 (see schedule below) \n  \nWhere? The Grill House (851 Higuera St. San Luis Obispo (link to map) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda: \n5:00pm to 5:50pm – Set-up & Networking & Apps (food kind) \n5:50pm to 6:00pm – Announcements \n6:00pm to 6:30pm – Presentation with Q & A \nTechBrew is officially over by 6:30pm\, but feel free to hang out and network \n  \nI look forward to seeing you there! \n  \nBrian Schwartz \nSLO BrewMaster
