SUMMARY:Steel Magnolia's at the Great American Melodrama
DESCRIPTION:One of the country’s most popular plays is set to premier at the Great American Melodrama in Oceano: Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias. This charming comedy about the bonds of friendship spawned the popular Oscar-nominated film version and follows the same story. “It’s a delightful play to open our season with. It’s so funny\, so well-written\, and the best actors wanted to work on the project\,” said Melodrama Artistic Director Dan Schultz. \nSet in Louisiana in the 1980’s\, Steel Magnolias is the tale of six Southern women who gather under the hair dryers of their local salon to gossip\, laugh\, and share stories and insults. Full of big characters\, big hair\, and big laughs\, the events turn serious when the group shares a tragic loss. You’ll fall in love with these women who are “delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel.” Directed by Robyne Parrish\, and featuring Suzy Newman (M’Lynn)\, Patty Thayer (Clairee)\, Katie Worley Beck (Annelle)\, Eleise Moore (Truvy)\, Bonner Church (Ouiser) and Rebecca Tucker (Shelby)\, the show is sure to delight audiences from across the Central Coast. \nFollowing each performance of Steel Magnolias is the brand new vaudeville revue\, The Queens of Comedy. It’s a hilarious tribute to your favorite comediennes from the last 100 years. Featuring song\, dance\, and comedy\, the Queens of Comedy is a perfect capper to an evening of incredible live theatre. It’s directed by Sarah Wussow and features choreography by Katie Fuchs Wackowski. \nThese shows play January 24 – March 10. Performances are Thursday and Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $23 to $30\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. For more information and to purchase tickets\, call the Melodrama Box Office\, at 805-489-2499\, or visit www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. Come see they’re brand new box office building across from the theatre\, you can’t miss it.  The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975.

SUMMARY:Cuesta College Presents - Topologies of Excess: A Survey of Contemporary Practices from Puerto Rico.
DESCRIPTION:The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery at Cuesta College kicks off the spring semester with Topologies of Excess: A Survey of Contemporary Practices from Puerto Rico. \nTopologies of Excess attempts to document some of the contemporary art practices that have emerged in Puerto Rico in recent years. Featured artists include: Zaida Balmaseda\, Amara Abdal Figueroa\, Sofia Gallisa\, Jorge Gonzalez\, Natalia Lassalle-Morillo\, Juan Alberto Negroni\, Monica Rodriguez\, and Mariola Rosario. \n“The work in this exhibition is expressive and beautiful – a guttural sense of loss transformed\,” said Cuesta College Harold J. SUMMARY:LightGabler Free Employment Law Seminar: Classifying Workers as Independent Contractors\, Temporary or Exempt-Salaried
DESCRIPTION:“We need to talk about our relationship…”Classifying Workers as Independent Contractors\, Temporary or Exempt-Salaried\nDate: Tuesday\, January 29\, 2019 \nTime: 7:30 am – 9:00 am \nCost: No charge to attend; RSVP required* \nLocation:\nEmbassy Suites Hotel\n333 Madonna Road\nSan Luis Obispo\, CA 93405 \nPresenters: Jonathan Fraser Light and Susan S. Waag \nRegistration Information\nClick here to register. \nAbout This Seminar\nIn the spectrum of potential legal problems facing California employers today\, few carry the destructive impact of the misclassification of workers. Treating an employee as an independent contractor\, or a non-exempt employee as salaried exempt\, can result in damages and penalties from a minimum of five state and federal agencies\, as well as civil liability for the employer. \nIn this informative seminar\, employment law attorneys Jonathan Fraser Light and Susan S. Waag will discuss the proper classification of workers to avoid staggering liability. Topics covered will include the following: \n\n“My employee wanted to be an independent contractor\, so it’s ok\, right?”\n“Why can’t I avoid CA employment laws by hiring only contractors?”\n“My employee works independently all the time…”\nNew California Supreme Court standards for who can be an independent contractor\nWhy temporary workers might create the greatest liability\nWhy temp agencies can’t protect you from liability\nThe three critical exemptions and a few available alternatives\nAccidentally losing the legitimate exempt status of an employee\n“My employee works without supervision\, so he must be exempt…”\n“My employee is salaried\, so I don’t owe her overtime\, right?”\n“Can I pay my exempt employee hourly wages?”\n“Can I pay my non-exempt employee a salary?”\nWhy employees can’t waive their right to protection under the wage and hour laws\nCritical documentation every employer needs to defend contractor or exempt status\n\n*Attendance is limited to no more than three people per company.

SUMMARY:PBID Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Over the past year\, with support from the City of San Luis Obispo\, Downtown SLO has been researching the feasibility of adopting a new Property-Based Business Improvement District (PBID) – a new assessment district that would expand the footprint of our downtown\, increase our clean and safe programs\, and dramatically raise the level of services our organization provides. \nPBIDs have proven to successfully revitalize downtowns across the country. There are over 100 in California and 1\,000 in the U.S. \nWe invite all interested stakeholders (property owners\, business owners\, and Downtown enthusiasts) to attend one of two information sessions next week to learn about the possibilities of this program. \nJoin us January 29 at 5:30PM OR January 30 at 9AM at the SLO County Public Library Community Room for an informational session\, ask questions and provide feedback with other Downtown SLO property & business owners.
