SUMMARY:Wine Becomes Art: Exhibition Show at San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

The exhibition includes original artworks by Michael Masicampo\, Candice Norcross\, James-Paul Brown\, Carissa Chappellet\, Gary Conway\, Tim Lloyd\, Colleen Gnos\, Yuroz\, and artists of the Mano Tinta Project. \nWine Becomes Art is the culmination of artists and winemakers tying their artistic craftsmanship together to create works of art while helping to promote the Central Coast wine industry. SUMMARY:The Great American Melodrama Presents: Unnecessary Farce
DESCRIPTION:UNNECESSARY FARCE\nBy Paul Slade Smith \nMarch 14 – April 28 \nTwo cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go! The hysterical comedy Unnecessary Farce by Paul Slade Smith arrives at The Great American Melodrama on March 14. Featuring some of the Melodrama’s funniest actors\, Unnecessary Farce is sure to tickle event he most fickle funny-bones. “This is a show for people who love big laughs and big characters\,” says Dan Schultz\, the Melodrama’s Artistic Director.  \nLike all farces\, the convoluted plot sets up a series of hilarious misunderstandings. Set in a cheap motel room\, an embezzling mayor (Billy Breed) meets with his female accountant (Rebecca Tucker). In the next room\, two cops (Eleise Moore and Nick Wilder) wait to catch the meeting on video. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room and who’s taken the money. Then things go to another level when the Scottish hit man with anger issues shows up. This show is truly laugh-a-minute. Some content may not be appropriate for little kids\, so the show is rated PG. \nFollowing every performance of Unnecessary Farce is the brand new vaudeville revue\, The Jungle Adventure. Put together by Melodrama favorite Katie Worley Beck\, it’s a musical trip into the jungle primeval. You’ll meet a witch doctor\, take a jungle cruise\, and see Tarzan and Jane like never before.  Featuring song\, dance\, and comedy\, The Jungle Adventure is the perfect end to a night of great theatre. \nThese shows play March 14 – April 28. Performances are Wednesday through Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $23 to $30\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. For more information and to purchase tickets\, call the Melodrama Box Office\, at 805-489-2499\, or visit www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. Come see their brand new box office building across from the theatre\, you can’t miss it.  The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Good Morning SLO | March
DESCRIPTION:A dynamic and informative 90-minute breakfast program specifically geared to San Luis Obispo business people. Held on the fourth Thursday of each month\, local experts focus on a wide variety of community and business topics. Deadline to register is 5 p.m. March 26. This month’s topics: \nIN THE HEART OF THE CITY \nHome to the famed Farmers Market\, community gatherings and bustling shops\, downtown SLO has been the pride and joy of the city for generations. It’s also ever evolving\, gradually morphing to reflect changing times. We asked Downtown SLO CEO Bettina Swigger to lay out her vision for the heart of the city. \n\nTHE NEW LIFE OF A HISTORIC THEATER \nWalk past the Fremont Theatre most nights and it’s abuzz with popular live music acts or special events. But despite an illustrious history\, it was not long ago that the art deco landmark’s future was in jeopardy. We asked Otter Productions’ Bruce Howard to share the story behind finding new life for an old theater. \n\n#METOO | RISING TO THE OCCASION \nMore than a year in\, the #MeToo movement continues to spread its impact\, empowering people to share their stories in pursuit of lasting change. Locally\, the nonprofit RISE is seeing more and more people and responding with new services. We asked RISE’s Jane Pomeroy to talk about the changing landscape. \n\nHELP FOR WHEN IT’S NOT EASY BEING GREEN \nWe all want to be greener at work\, but it can be hard to know where to start – and what changes are worth the effort. The new SLO County Green Business Network is here to help. After going through the free certification process at the Chamber offices\, we asked program director Cory Jones to come spread the word. \n\nTHERE’S A FUNGUS AMONG US \nGreen hills aren’t all that have sprouted with all the recent rain – mushrooms of all kinds are popping up all over SLO County. We wanted to know more about fungi and their enthusiastic fans\, so we asked local mushroom hunter Michelle Torres-Grant to give us the dirt on foraging around the Central Coast. \n\nSTANDING 17 STRONG AFTER LOSS \nThe Teixeiras lost their son Ryan to cancer two years ago\, but the beloved baseball player’s legacy lives on through his vision for 17 Strong\, a family-run charity that funds Victory Trips for young adults with life-threatening illnesses. We invited Ryan’s father\, Steve Teixeira\, to share the victories the effort has gained. \n\nCELEBRATING PILLARS OF JEWISH MUSIC \nThe SLO Master Chorale and Orchestra continues its celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday with a preview of its spring concert. On April 28\, the group will perform Bernstein’s energetic Chichester Psalms\, with hints of dance music\, and fellow Jewish composer Ernest Bloch’s Avodath Hakodesh\, or Sacred Service.
