SUMMARY:The Great American Melodrama Presents: Unnecessary Farce
DESCRIPTION:UNNECESSARY FARCE\nBy Paul Slade Smith \nMarch 14 – April 28 \nTwo cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go! The hysterical comedy Unnecessary Farce by Paul Slade Smith arrives at The Great American Melodrama on March 14. Featuring some of the Melodrama’s funniest actors\, Unnecessary Farce is sure to tickle event he most fickle funny-bones. “This is a show for people who love big laughs and big characters\,” says Dan Schultz\, the Melodrama’s Artistic Director.  \nLike all farces\, the convoluted plot sets up a series of hilarious misunderstandings. Set in a cheap motel room\, an embezzling mayor (Billy Breed) meets with his female accountant (Rebecca Tucker). In the next room\, two cops (Eleise Moore and Nick Wilder) wait to catch the meeting on video. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room and who’s taken the money. Then things go to another level when the Scottish hit man with anger issues shows up. This show is truly laugh-a-minute. Some content may not be appropriate for little kids\, so the show is rated PG. \nFollowing every performance of Unnecessary Farce is the brand new vaudeville revue\, The Jungle Adventure. Put together by Melodrama favorite Katie Worley Beck\, it’s a musical trip into the jungle primeval. You’ll meet a witch doctor\, take a jungle cruise\, and see Tarzan and Jane like never before.  Featuring song\, dance\, and comedy\, The Jungle Adventure is the perfect end to a night of great theatre. \nThese shows play March 14 – April 28. Performances are Wednesday through Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $23 to $30\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. For more information and to purchase tickets\, call the Melodrama Box Office\, at 805-489-2499\, or visit www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. Come see their brand new box office building across from the theatre\, you can’t miss it.  The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:SLO Brew Rock\n855 Aerovista Place\, San Luis Obispo\, CA\nApril 11\, 2019\n7:00 pm  | Ages: 18+\n$20.00\n\n\n\nEvent Information\nABBARAMA will be performing live at SLO Brew Rock for all our dancing queens.\nDoors at 7PM | Ages 18+ | Standing Room Only  \nABBARAMA is a group of young musicians from Sweden\, UK and USA celebrating the music and style of ABBA. The show is performed with a modern electric sound produced by Grammy Award winning Greg Collins (U2\, No Doubt) along with art and video projections by pop artist KII Arens (Lady Gaga\, Katy Perry) creating the ultimate ABBARAMA EXPERIENCE! \nThe story of ABBARAMA started in 2017\, when Josephine Forsman – the Grammy nominated Swedish musician and drummer of the all female rock band Sahara Hotnights\, and Nathan Arling the US musiciam and drummer Urge Overkill\, The Last Vega and celebrity from the international EMMY Award winning Swedish TV-show “Allt For Sverige\,” began dreaming about creating the ultimate ABBA show. \nPop Artist KII Arens soon joined in as the Art and Video Director\, creating the fun and vibrant esthetics of ABBARAMA.\nSo did Diana Ebe\, a Swedish pop singer living in Los Angeles\, the UK singer Alison Garner\, the Chicago artist Evan Hand\, and the Swedish guitar player Adam Skeppar – they became the members of ABBARAMA.\nTogether with the band – Swedish guitar player Niklas Karlin\, US drummer Dustin Koester\, and US bass player Eric Louiselle\, they all gathered in a big white mansion in Hollywood HIlls and started creating their own new sound around the classic Swedish ABBA songs. \n“It was important for us to take the sound of ABBA into the new generation\, adding a big electronic dance vibe to the already ultimate pop song along with visual art\, fashion\, and the style of ABBA\,” says Alison. \n“We’re here to pay homage to ABBA while making it modern\, color explosive\, youthful and stylish\,” says Diana Ebe.

SUMMARY:Cal Poly Arts Presents Ranky Tanky
DESCRIPTION:Cal Poly Arts presents RANKY TANKY in concert. This Charleston\, South Carolina-based quintet performs timeless music of Gullah culture born in the southeastern Sea Island region of the United States\, mixing low country traditions with large doses of jazz\, gospel\, funk\, and R&B. \n  \n“Gullah” comes from West African language and means “a people blessed by God.” “Ranky Tanky” translates loosely as “Work It\,” or “Get Funky!” From playful game songs to ecstatic shouts\, from heartbreaking spirituals to delicate lullabies\, the musical roots of Charleston are “rank” and fertile ground from which these contemporary artists are grateful to have grown. \n  \n“Ranky Tanky sings old Gullah songs – some of them sly moral lessons – in arrangements that connect their beat to a New Orleans lilt.” – New York Times \n  \nA pre-show lecture will be led by SLO Co. Medical Examiner Dr. Joye Carter and Cal Poly lecturer Alicia Moretti in the PAC Pavilion\, beginning at 6:30 p.m. \n  \nStudent and adult tickets are $35.20 and $44\, respectively. \n  \nThis evening is sponsored by Kathleen Enz Finken & Gerald Finken\, KCBX 90.1 FM\, Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF) and the National Endowment for the Arts
