SUMMARY:The Great American Melodrama Presents: Unnecessary Farce
DESCRIPTION:UNNECESSARY FARCE\nBy Paul Slade Smith \nMarch 14 – April 28 \nTwo cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go! The hysterical comedy Unnecessary Farce by Paul Slade Smith arrives at The Great American Melodrama on March 14. Featuring some of the Melodrama’s funniest actors\, Unnecessary Farce is sure to tickle event he most fickle funny-bones. “This is a show for people who love big laughs and big characters\,” says Dan Schultz\, the Melodrama’s Artistic Director.  \nLike all farces\, the convoluted plot sets up a series of hilarious misunderstandings. Set in a cheap motel room\, an embezzling mayor (Billy Breed) meets with his female accountant (Rebecca Tucker). In the next room\, two cops (Eleise Moore and Nick Wilder) wait to catch the meeting on video. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room and who’s taken the money. Then things go to another level when the Scottish hit man with anger issues shows up. This show is truly laugh-a-minute. Some content may not be appropriate for little kids\, so the show is rated PG. \nFollowing every performance of Unnecessary Farce is the brand new vaudeville revue\, The Jungle Adventure. Put together by Melodrama favorite Katie Worley Beck\, it’s a musical trip into the jungle primeval. You’ll meet a witch doctor\, take a jungle cruise\, and see Tarzan and Jane like never before.  Featuring song\, dance\, and comedy\, The Jungle Adventure is the perfect end to a night of great theatre. \nThese shows play March 14 – April 28. Performances are Wednesday through Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $23 to $30\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. For more information and to purchase tickets\, call the Melodrama Box Office\, at 805-489-2499\, or visit www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. Come see their brand new box office building across from the theatre\, you can’t miss it.  The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Journalist Ben Bradlee Jr. at Cal Poly
DESCRIPTION:Cal Poly’s Journalism and Political Science departments will host journalist and author Ben Bradlee Jr. for a campus talk about President Donald Trump on Monday\, April 15. \nBradlee will discuss who voted for candidate Trump and why in 2016\, the president’s performance in office — especially his repeated attacks on the media as “the enemy of the American people” — and the prospects for the 2020 election. \nThe talk will take place at 7 p.m. in the Baker Center (No. 180)\, Room 101\, in the heart of campus. The event is free and open to the public. \nBradlee’s new book\, released in October\, is “The Forgotten: How the People of One Pennsylvania County Elected Donald Trump and Changed America.” It is an in-depth\, closely reported examination of Trump voters in Pennsylvania’s Luzerne County\, a swing county in the northeastern section of the state\, which played a pivotal role in Trump’s election and victory in the Keystone State. \nA question-and-answer period will follow the talk\, and books will be available for sale and signing. \nBradlee previously visited campus for a talk on “Journalism @ 100: Why It Matters Today More than Ever” during the Journalism Department’s Centennial Celebration in 2016. \n  \nAbout Ben Bradlee Jr. \nBradlee is the former managing editor of The Boston Globe\, whose investigations of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church were chronicled in the film\, “Spotlight\,” a major feature film released in fall 2015 that won Academy Awards for best original screenplay and best picture. Bradlee was portrayed in the film by actor John Slattery. Bradlee spent 25 years\, from 1979 to 2004\, with The Globe — 10 years as a reporter and 15 as an editor. He covered the 1988 presidential campaign of Michael Dukakis and also reported overseas from Afghanistan\, South Africa\, the Middle East\, Latin America and Vietnam. \n  \nAbout the Cal Poly Journalism Department \nCal Poly’s Journalism Department offers a professional program that prepares students for real-world careers. Beginning with core courses that establish a strong foundation in the field\, journalism majors then focus on media specializations of their choice. Students have the opportunity to acquire practical experience by working for the department’s converged media center\, newspaper\, campus radio and TV station\, or the student public relations agency.   \n  \nAbout the Cal Poly Political Science Department \nThe Cal Poly Political Science Department prepares its graduates to be informed\, active and responsible citizens. The program emphasizes the comprehension of political thinking\, communication and analytical skills and the understanding of cultural diversity. Students are routinely offered internship opportunities in a range of high-profile companies across the nation\, as well as local\, state and federal government organizations such as the State Department and the U.S. Congress.

SUMMARY:San Luis Obispo Museum of Art Presents: Film Night
DESCRIPTION:This Monday\, join an in-depth examination of how digital filmmaking is challenging traditional celluloid film as the gold standard in moviemaking. Side by Side captures the essence of the film versus digital debate through unprecedented access to influential filmmakers such as James Cameron\, David Fincher\, George Lucas\, David Lynch\, Martin Scorsese\, Robert Rodriguez\, Lana and Andy Wachowski\, Steven Soderbergh and many more. \nFor almost one hundred years there was only one way to make a movie. Movies where shot\, edited and projected using photochemical film. But over the last two decades a digital process has emerged to challenge photochemical filmmaking. Side by Side investigates the history\, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation\, and how — at least for now — the two forms coexist side by side. \nSuggested donation at the door: $5 members\, $7 nonmembers includes complimentary beverage

SUMMARY:The Fremont Theater Presents: BOB MOSES
DESCRIPTION:Bob Moses will be live in downtown SLO on Monday\, April 15! \nTickets On-Sale Friday\, March 1 at 10:00 AM. \n♦ SHOW INFORMATION ♦ \nDoor Time- 8:00 PM\nShow Time- 9:00 PM\n18+ \n♦ TICKET OUTLET ♦ \nBoo Boo Records\n978 Monterey St • SLO\nMon-Wed 10-8\, Thurs-Sat 10-9\, Sun 11-6 \n♦ BAND INFORMATION ♦ \nBob Moses\, the Vancouver-bred duo consisting of Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance\, came to life in the Brooklyn underground scene in 2012. Early single releases on taste-making electronic label Scissor & Thread led to signing with Domino and the late 2015 release of their debut album Days Gone By. \nMeshing guitar licks\, a moody smolder and a dash of dance-floor ambiance with lyrical depth and classic songwriting\, the duo created a sound that appeals equally to club goers and rock music fans. Translating their sound seamlessly to the live performance realm\, years of nonstop global touring – including appearances at every major festival from Glastonbury and Coachella\, to EDC\, Lollapalooza and beyond – cemented the duo’s reputation as a must-see live act. A standout performance on The Ellen Show\, a pair of nominations at both the Junos and the Grammys (and a Grammy win)\, and a top 15 US Alternative radio hit with ” Tearing Me Up\,” have further sealed the band’s burgeoning mainstream success.\nMay 2018 saw the announcement of a headline US tour and the release of track “Heaven Only Knows\,” the first new music from the next exciting phase for Bob Moses.
