SUMMARY:The Aging Project: Change the Way We Approach Aging
DESCRIPTION:The Aging Project is an annual event meant to increase awareness and inspire action related to issues of aging. Each year we focus on a particular issue\, bringing educators\, clinicians\, and community members together to hear from an expert in the field. \nThis year’s speaker is world renowned Clinical Psychologist Dr. Patrick Arbore\, founder of the Friendship Line and from the San Francisco based organization\, Institute on Aging. He will be speaking on Aging\, Loneliness and Isolation: A need for Community Involvement. \nAs Americans live longer\, and families live further apart\, issues related to aging have become a crisis for our communities. Keeping older adults mentally and physically healthy\, social engaged\, and out of isolation are issues we will continue to face as our older adult dramatically increases in the next two decades. \nAccording to the US Census Bureau\, “The aging of baby boomers means that within just a couple decades\, older people are projected to outnumber children for the first time in U.S. history. By 2035\, there will be 78.0 million people 65 years and older compared to 76.7 million (previously 76.4 million) under the age of 18.”

SUMMARY:PAC Hosts RSVP XXIV: Invitation
DESCRIPTION:The Cal Poly Music Department’s student production ensemble RSVP will stage its annual transmedia concert\, this year titled “RSVP XXIV: Invitation\,” at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday\, May 28 and 30\, in the Pavilion of the Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center. \nThis is the 24th season of the transmedia series that combines a variety of media elements including music\, dance\, costume and lighting to convey its story. This year’s transmedia production is a thoughtful trace of a famous rock star’s life\, the choices he faces during his career\, his rise to iconic fame and artistic influence and the invitation to his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. \n“This show answers the question: what do heavy metal\, a promised land and aliens have to do with each other?” joked RSVP Artistic Director Antonio G. Barata\, a Cal Poly Music Department faculty member. “The production showcases themes of inspiration\, consumerism\, darkness and legacy as we follow an aspiring rock star’s rise to fame\, and the challenges that follow his success.” \nThe composition\, performance\, soundscape and staging combine the creativity of students in Barata’s Sound Design classes with choreography by Evan Ricaurté\, an architecture senior. \nBarata\, the founder of the Sound Design Program\, said it gives music students the skills and exposure to the technology needed to create the production. His students create the media elements involved to bring the show to life. \nTickets are $14. Event parking is sponsored by the PAC. Tickets are sold at the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To order by phone\, call 805-SLO-4TIX (805-756-4849). \nThe performances are sponsored by Cal Poly’s Music Department\, College of Liberal Arts and Instructionally Related Activities program. For more information\, call the Music Department at 805-756-2406 or visit the department’s calendar website.
