SUMMARY:SLO Botanical Gardens Presents: Mayo Botanico Art Show
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nFriday\, May 31\, 201910:00 AM\nFriday\, July 12\, 201912:00 PM\n\n\nGoogle Calendar  ICS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStunning large format painting series by international artist Juan Manuel Perez Salazar\, titled “Mayo Botanico” are on display at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden until mid July. Visit the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm to experience the textural floral collection of this beautiful original artwork. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Artist Perez Salazar draws inspiration for the bounty and beauty of nature. He states about his oversized paintings\, “Flower blossoms have been the promise before the fruit. It is nature’s way of announcing its unfolding power to create and to deliver future nourishment … flowers have done so for thousands of years. The diversity and large amounts of blossoms fill and overflow the formal ground to the max\, producing heighten feelings of positive human emotions of plenitude and abundance.” \nImmerse yourself in these splendid paintings at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden. All pieces are for sale\, and proceeds benefit the Garden. \nJuan Manuel Perez Salazar resides on the central coast\, where he is an avid artist and gardener. His work has been displayed in\, Mexico\, India\, and throughout California. His studio practice explores boundaries of painting and sculpture\, crossing and transposing various modes of styles in search of his own images. The experiential and cultural associations of specific subjects and materials fuels his exploration. Inspired by the symbolism and beauty of the natural world\, he utilizes blossoms to seduce the observer to take pleasure in watching flowers bloom. Inspired to compose what he gather with his senses in the garden; he often cuts his own flowers to serve as models. \nView more artist work at @JuanManuelPerezSalazar

SUMMARY:Drop-In Classes: Art Making for Stress Relief
DESCRIPTION:De-stress this summer and get your creative juices flowing with two drop-in classes with Judy Johnson-Williams.\n\nJune 22: Nature Journaling\nWant to get out in nature? Art blocked? This introductory class is about being attuned to the natural world and how to participate as an artist-scientist. We will sketch the wonderful bounty of plants and wildlife around the museum. Can’t draw? The first hour will feature friendly drawing instruction to get you started and there are many alternative techniques: tracing leaves\, rubbings\, and counting for noticing and recording what’s around us. Then we will go outside and see what we can find.\n\nJune 29: Make a Sketchbook\nBetter than buying one! You can make your own in the perfect size size (to fit in your backpack\, pocket)\, with the paper you like\, hard or soft covers. We will make three different book forms (stitched\, sidebound\, one sheet) and then take them outside to try them out. No experience necessary. \nAbout the Instructor\nJudy Johnson-Williams is an artist exploring line\, sometimes in the abstract\, and sometimes figurative. It is the expressiveness and adaptability of line to many forms that is interesting. She exhibits widely on the West Coast and is active in a number of art groups. Learn more by visiting her website. \nDetails\nSaturdays\, June 22 and 29 from 11 AM to 1 PM. Register online or at the door (space permitting). $25 members\, $29 general per class. All materials included. \nNot a SLOMA member? Join online and get discounts on workshops\, youth classes\, film nights\, trips\, and more!
