SUMMARY:United Way’s 11th Annual Stuff the Bus – School Supply Donation Drive
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time again and we are planning to make our 11th Annual Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive the best one ever! United Way of San Luis Obispo is recruiting businesses to host Workplace Collection Sites and up to 150 Volunteers are needed countywide at five bus sites to accept donations from the public and sort donations on the bus. We are inviting you (or a Team) to volunteer with United Way this summer to help us STUFF THE BUS! Volunteers are needed countywide and opportunities include: greeters\, donation collectors\, sorters\, site coordinators and a set-up crew at each site. \nMany local students and teachers are in need of the supplies necessary to begin the year successfully. Last year over 3\,000 students in need received donated supplies countywide\, but there were about 1\,000 students still in need of supplies. \nBusinesses\, groups\, and individuals are also invited to become a Stuff the Bus sponsor (see attached Sponsorship Levels) and to apply to be a Workplace Collection Site to help provide additional locations that are convenient to employees and the public to drop off donated school supplies that students need to succeed. Join United Way of San Luis Obispo County and KSBY to help others in our community by partnering with us to ‘Stuff the Bus’. \nFrom August 9th-11th\, the following locations in SLO County will have a bus on site and will accept donations of new school supplies: \nWalmart-Arroyo Grande \nStaples-San Luis Obispo \nKmart-Atascadero \nCookie Crock-Cambria \nStaples-Paso Robles \nVolunteer Site Coordinators and 6-7 volunteers per shift are needed to be on hand to accept and sort donations on Friday\, Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10am.  There are 3 volunteer shifts available at five locations countywide: \nShift 1:  10am-12pm for set-up \nShift 2: 12pm-3pm Greeters\, sorters and donation collectors \nShift 3:  3pm-6pm same as Shift 2 \nFor more information to be a Workplace Collection Site call 805-541-1234 or visit United Way’s website www.unitedwayslo.org/stuffthebus. Additionally\, living with the diagnosis of Cowden Syndrome and the knowledge of possible cancers that will grow in certain areas of her body over the course of her life has given her a purpose to live in spite of and anxiety. \nHer service dog has been approved through Doggie Do Good in AG and will alert if her arm is injured and she is bleeding as well as be a psychiatric service dog. With her just 2 years from graduating high school\, it gives her (and her family) great comfort to think of her having this companion by her side as she embarks on her life and dreams. \nThe total cost for the dog is $25\,000\, of which none is covered by insurance. DESCRIPTION:On August 10th\, Cuesta College will play host to The Commanders Jazz Ensemble – a faction of The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West. The concert\, free and open to the public\, will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center located on the San Luis Obispo campus. Tickets for this event can be obtained online at http://bit.ly/CPACUSAF or on the Harold J. Miossi CPAC at Cuesta College Facebook page. Early registration is recommended.“This is our only free show of the season\, and we love that it provides an opportunity for community members to experience this incredible venue for the first time\,” said Joan Hurwit\, Harold J. Miossi CPAC Supervisor. “When we hosted the U.S. Navy’s Sea Chanters Chorus last year\, it sold out well in advance for a good reason – it’s going to be an incredible evening!”The musicians of The Commanders Jazz Ensemble are all active duty Airmen in the United States Air Force\, sharing a passion for the smooth sounds of jazz and big band music. Their talents are many\, and the swing won’t stop once the music starts. From traditional jazz to grooving bop\, this event is sure to be fun for the entire family.In support of official military recruiting and military relationships with the community\, all eighteen members of The Commanders Jazz Ensemble are professional jazz musicians\, bringing the patriotism of the Air Force to the public in a big and foot-tapping way.
