SUMMARY:Strokes for Stroke
DESCRIPTION:Strokes for Stroke is a partnership between Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art\, which encourages rehabilitation through art. The program is designed for all levels of stroke recovery and no previous art experience is required. Special focus is given on techniques that help stimulate brain function and improve hand-eye coordination. Research shows that painting and art therapy can be an enjoyable way to enhance rehabilitation for stroke patients. The event also gives stroke survivors and caregivers an opportunity to socialize with others who share similar interests and experiences. All levels of skill and mobility are invited to participate. \nStrokes for Stroke is complimentary. SUMMARY:Cuesta College Presents: Careers in Teaching Information Session
DESCRIPTION:The Cuesta College Teacher Pathways Program is hosting an information\nsession and dinner for students and community members interested in pursuing careers in teaching.\nThe free event\, with a Spanish translator available\, will be held on Tuesday\, August 27th\, from 5:00 –\n6:30 p.m. in Room 5401 on the San Luis Obispo Campus. \nThe session includes a discussion with Superintendent of San Luis Obispo County Office of Education\nDr. James Brescia about the demand for teachers in the region. According to Dr. Brescia\, the county\nwould need a minimum of 250 new hires of teachers each year over the next five years. \nAttendees will also hear from a panel of local area K-12 teachers\, Cal Poly Credential Office staff\, local\nbilingual teacher credential candidates\, and more. The event includes complimentary dinner\, and\nparticipants are given a chance to network with the Cuesta College Teacher Pathways team and students\nfrom the Cuesta College Future Teachers Club. \n“Anyone interested in learning more about teaching as a career should attend this event\,” says Rosemary\nWrenn\, Education Department Lead at Cuesta College. “You can find out exactly how to maximize your\ntime at Cuesta\, speak with representatives of teacher credential programs\, and meet up with other\nstudents and community members who share your goals and dreams.” \nThose interested can register for the event on eventbrite.com or Facebook.
