Miossi Art Gallery on the San Luis Obispo campus will host Julie Heffernan’s art exhibit As the Waters Rise from August 29th to October 11th. Heffernan’s artwork aims to offer a surrealist vision of the environment around us and the human condition\, reflecting environmental awareness. \n“Heffernan’s recent paintings create alternative habitats in response to environmental disaster and planetary excess\,” says Emma Saperstein\, curator of the Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery. “With rising waters\, [Heffernan] imagines worlds in trees or on rafts in which undulating mattresses\, tree boughs\, and road signs guide the journey.” \nThe opening reception for this exhibit will be held on August 29th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with an Artist Talk at 5:30 p.m. in the Experimental Theater at the Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center. Heffernan will also host an informal sneak peek at 12:00 p.m. in the gallery. \nJulie Heffernan received her MFA in Painting from Yale and a BFA from the University of California\, Santa Cruz. Heffernan is in the collection of major museums including the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Heffernan is a Professor of Fine Arts at Montclair State University. \nThe Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery is located in Room 7170 on Cuesta College’s San Luis Obispo campus. DESCRIPTION:9/11 Paddle Out – Sept. 11th\, 2019 – Pismo Beach\, CA\n$20.00 \n\nAMPSURF ANNUAL 9/11 NATIONAL PADDLE OUT \nWe will hold our annual 9/11 National Paddle Out on Wednesday September 11th\, 2019. This year’s paddle out will happen across the country in three locations at 10:28am (please show up 30-45 minutes early)\, this is the time at which the North Tower collapsed in New York. Each AmpSurf Chapter; California\, New York and New England will observe the moment with a traditional surf paddle out and remembrance wreath laying in the ocean.  The California paddle out will be held at the Addie St. Beach Access\, Pismo Beach\, CA All are invited to attend on shore or in the water\, those going into the water must bring their own surf gear\, including surfboard and wetsuit\, and if assistance is required\, make arrangements for your own helpers. You must be able to get in and out of the water for the event on their own. Each person who sign ups will get a commemorative AmpSurf 9/11 Paddle out t-shirt. \nAnyone who is unable to attend an AmpSurf paddle out but wishes to do their own and/or just get a commemorative t-shirt should sign up (only 50 per location)\, and is encouraged to assemble on their own and paddle out at their local break or any body of water to mark the moment. Meditation instructor\, Dawn Feuerberg will de-mystify meditation with clear\, concise\, and practical guidance. Dawn will begin each class with breath work to calm the nervous system. She will then guide you through classic mindfulness meditation techniques for 20 minutes to bring balanced relaxation\, restore your energy\, improve well-being and clear the mind.
