SUMMARY:Cuesta College Presents: Julie Heffernan at the Miossi Art Gallery

Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center. Heffernan will also host an informal sneak peek at 12:00 p.m. in the gallery. \nJulie Heffernan received her MFA in Painting from Yale and a BFA from the University of California\, Santa Cruz. SUMMARY:Cuesta College Presents: Central Coast Writers Conference
DESCRIPTION:Named one of the 2019 “Best Writing Conferences in America” by The Writermagazine\, the 35th Annual Central Coast Writers Conference (CCWC) takes place at Cuesta College’s San Luis Obispo campus on September 26-28. \nForty presenters will offer 112 classes covering topics such as marketing\, publishing\, and writing for beginners\, poetry\, memoirs\, nonfiction\, novels\, screenwriting\, and more. \n“We’ve decided to shoot even higher for 2019 – we’re keeping what works while also offering exceptional new opportunities\,” said CCWC Director Teri Bayus. “No matter where they are in their writing career\, every single person who attends this conference will enter feeling welcome and leave prepared to take their writing to the next level.” \nAfter selling out last year\, nine Master Class sessions are available this year. The six-hour\, immersive workshops focus on specific areas of writing and are designed to provide a finished product by the end of the course. Each class is limited to 20 students and offers post-conference support\, including a “scribe tribe” and a faculty mentor. Emmy and Peabody award-winning producer and writer Peter Dunne is back this year as an instructor\, bringing three decades of Hollywood experience. “Many who have attended a lot of conferences said CCWC was head and shoulders above the rest\,” said Dunne. “I couldn’t agree more – not only for the quality of the faculty but for the comfort of the community.” \nDisney Channel writer Ricky Roxburgh will once again teach the Phillips 66 Teen Program. Roxburgh will lead teen writers on a crash course in screenwriting and discuss the basics of building a story\, developing characters\, and constructing a plot. Students will produce screenplays for a ten-minute movie. Finished scripts are submitted for judging\, and the winning script will be made into a short film and shown at the 2020 SLO Film Festival. Scholarships are available and are due by September 20. \nConference attendees will have access to all workshops\, keynote presentations\, yoga breaks on the Cuesta campus lawn\, a wine and appetizer reception\, lunches\, and one personal critique session. \nRegistration begins at $300 and is available now at www.CentralCoastWritersConference.com.

SUMMARY:Social Distortion and Flogging Molly at Vina Robles Ampitheatre
DESCRIPTION:Legendary American punk rock band SOCIAL DISTORTION and quintessential Irish-American Celtic punk band FLOGGING MOLLY are teaming up for the ultimate Summer tour. Their co-headline tour will play Vina Robles Amphitheatre on September 27 with The Devil Makes Three and Le Butcherettes in tow. Pandora and CITI presale kicks off on April 23rd at 10am and public on sale begins on April 26th at 10am. Front Row Packages and VIP Tour Packages can be purchased here: http://bit.ly/sdfmvip \n“We’re excited to be heading out on the road with our friends Flogging Molly this summer\,” vows Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness. “It’s been a long time since we’ve played a show together and the first time since ’92 that Social Distortion has done a co-headline tour. It’s going to be a lot of fun and we’re all looking forward to it.” \nSince their formation in 1979 in the working-class Southern California suburb of Fullerton\, Social Distortion have a recharged rock ‘n’ roll sound merging outlaw country\, classic punk and swaggering blues. The band’s last release Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes was the first album with their current label Epitaph Records and the band’s highest charting album in their career. Produced for the first time by Ness himself\, the album debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. As the band is now in their 40th year and still going strong\, look to make this tour the start of their 2019 festivities while also preparing to head back into the studio to start a new chapter to their already rich legacy. \nFLOGGING MOLLY is a staple in the punk scene and touring in support of Life Is Good\, their first new album in over six years. It’s filled with rousing songs that are timeless in their sentiment\, but directly related to today’s most pressing concerns: politics\, the economy\, unemployment\, planned boomtowns gone bust\, immigration policies gone awry\, and much more. Life Is Good serves as a wake-up call to those who have simply stood by while far-reaching political decisions were made that had serious impact on them. The band started out as the house band at Molly Malone’s and built a loyal following. They’ve built a massive fan base through endless touring and even have their very own boat cruise which has hosted everyone from Rancid to NOFX to The Offspring to Less Than Jake to The English Beat to The Bouncing Souls to Frank Turner to Gogol Bordello. This year marks the fifth year of their roaring Salty Dog Cruise. SUMMARY:Russian Ballet Theatre Presents Swan Lake at the San Luis Obispo Performing Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Those faithful to the tradition of Swan Lake\, must see Russian Ballet Theatre’s new production of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s timeless classic. Choreographer Nadezhda Kalinina (Mariinsky Theatre\, Teatro Lirico\, Omsk State Music Theatre) lovingly retouches the oldest St. Petersburg version of the ballet and adds her vision and something more that undoubtedly will leave audiences flushed with emotion. RBT’s dancers bring her choreography to life along with the new exquisite hand painted sets and 150 new hand sewn costumes. Designed by the young\, accomplished Sergei Novikov (Mariinsky Theatre\, Omsk State Music Theatre\, St. Petersburg State Music Hall)\, these are in the century old tradition of the great theatrical masters. SFX makeup by Award-winning Irina Strukova (Crazy Rich Asians\, Netflix\, HBO) completes the already perfect glittering fantasy that is Swan Lake! Russian Ballet Theatre has partnered with PLUS1\, an initiative that connects artists with causes\, so that $1 from every ticket sold will support local public school teachers and their classroom projects in San Luis Obispo and surrounding areas through DonorsChoose.org.
