SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Virtual Good Morning SLO - September 2020
DESCRIPTION:Good Morning SLO has gone virtual! Grab breakfast and coffee and join us for this month’s virtual Good Morning SLO. To preserve some community connection in this time of being apart\, you’ll have the chance to interact with speakers by asking your most pressing questions. Zoom invite will be sent upon registration. \nView this month’s Good Morning SLO digital flyers HERE \n  \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nSeptember topics include: \nARTS IN CRISIS\nThroughout history\, some of the most impactful art has been created during tectonic societal shifts and times of crisis. Leann Standish\, Executive Director of the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center will delve into a bit of that history and share how our world’s current events are influencing trends and experiences. \n\nTAX CREDITS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES\nJust last week\, California announced a new program designed to entice businesses to hire more workers over the next three months. Mical Bovee\, Principal at Glenn Burdette\, will share what you need to know to take advantage of this program and navigate the ever-changing tax landscape. \n\nWHAT’S THE POINT OF VACCINES?\nFlu season is on its way and SLO County continues to struggle to effectively contain the Coronavirus. Pediatric specialist\, Dr. Grace Lim will share how vaccines will help us survive this challenging time as we prepare to embark on the most impactful immunization effort of our lifetime. \n\nSTARTING ON THE RIGHT TRACK\nIf you’ve ever thought about how we could improve traffic and find transportation alternatives on the Central Coast\, rest assured you are not alone. SLOCOG is launching a new regional rail study and Anna Devers will share what residents need to know and how they can get involved. \n\nSOMETHING’S FISHY ON THE CENTRAL COAST\nRebounding populations of king salmon and rumors of spot prawn sales have many feeling excited about the future of the fishing industry on the Central Coast. A third generation local carrying on his family’s legacy in Morro Bay\, Giovanni DeGarimore will opine on how we can set up our region for a thriving seafood culture. \n\nVENN DIAGRAM OF BUSINESS & BLACK LIVES\nToday’s headlines might lead you to believe that support for business and Black Lives Matter have zero overlap\, but there’s far more to it. Founding Director of the Diversity Coalition\, Michael Boyer will share why his support of both the business community and #BlackLivesMatter demonstrations are not mutually exclusive as we work towards an anti-racist community. \n\nThank you to our 2020 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n

SUMMARY:Open SLO Updates | WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:Open SLO Updates \nThe City has committed to retaining parklets and sidewalk dining at least through June 2021 as part of the Open SLO pilot program. Through the first months\, Open SLO has evolved from full street closures into temporary parklets and now more semi-permanent buildouts. It has been exciting to see the evolution. Customizing and decorating parklets is not only allowed\, but highly encouraged. Several businesses have already designed and constructed their own parklets\, or customized features within City-installed parklets. As our community beings to prepare for cooler weather further modifications for temporary outdoor activities will be necessary. To help support our businesses navigate these considerations\, the City’s Open SLO team has prepared information on the most frequently requested modifications that businesses may consider for their parklets including weatherproofing\, lighting\, and aesthetic enhancements. Click here to view that information. \nIn partnership with Downtown SLO\, all city businesses with temporary outdoor activities or a parklet through Open SLO are invited to participate in the Zoom meeting next Thursday\, September 24 at 9:00 am to discuss the various programs and how they will operate during the winter months. The zoom meeting can be accessed through the details below. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/81087183655?pwd=L0I4N2NNL200Um9OZDdDT3ZKY0IwQT09\nMeeting ID: 810 8718 3655\nPasscode: 443889\nOne tap mobile:\n+16699006833\,\,81087183655#\,\,\,\,\,\,0#\,\,443889# US (San Jose) \nFor more information\, please visit www.OpenSLO.org or contact the City via email at OpenSLO@slocity.org.
