SUMMARY:History Center Holiday BBQ
DESCRIPTION:WE’RE LIGHTING THE GRILL \nFill your mind with the diverse history of the Brooks Street/Eto Park neighborhood\, and fill your belly with delicious tri tip with all the fixings! You’ll be able to save yourself having to cook one night during the busy holiday season\, while at the same time doing good by supporting the History Center. \nAt one time\, the area of South and Brooks Streets was Japantown\, inhabited by a thriving community of Japanese-Americans. With World War II came the shameful practice of internment\, where Americans of Japanese descent were taken from their homes and held in camps away from the coast. World War II also brought new people to the city\, including the families of African American soldiers serving at Camp San Luis and Camp Roberts\, many of whom made the neighborhood home. \nToday\, both legacies stand literally side by side\, with Eto Park and St Luke Missionary Baptist Church being directly next door to each other. \n  \nJoin us on Sunday\, December 6th for our Covid-safe drive-thru barbeque. Without needing to leave your car\, you will get:\nA full tri-tip\, a full loaf of french bread\, salad and beans – enough food for four big eaters.\nA free Self-Guided Walking Tour to the historic Eto Park/Brook Street neighborhood \n  \nThe satisfaction of knowing you’re supporting the preservation of our county’s history \nSome people have reported having difficulties registering using mobile devices. We are working to solve this issue. If you are having trouble\, please call us at (805) 543-0638 or email info@historycenterslo.org.

SUMMARY:Cal Poly Choirs' Holiday Kaleidoscope
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThe Cal Poly Choirs will present the fourth annual — and first virtual — “Holiday Kaleidoscope” at 3 p.m. Sunday Dec. 6. \nA variety of virtual choir presentations will be featured\, with special guest appearances by the Valencia High School Choirs and Canzona Women’s Ensemble\, among others. \n“Virtual choirs are created through audio engineering of individual recordings made by singers\, combined to form a unified choral sound\,” said Scott Glysson\, Cal Poly director of choral activities. \nAll four Cal Poly choral ensembles will perform: PolyPhonics\, the Women’s Chorus\, Chamber Choir and University Singers. The Valencia High School Choirs will be directed by Cal Poly alumna Christine Tavares-Mocha (Music\, ’01). The four university choirs and the guest choirs will each perform a few short selections of repertoire\, and the groups will unite for some works as well. \nThe University Singers will perform works by Eric Whitacre and Ysae Barnwell; the Women’s Chorus and Canzona will sing a composition by Rosephanye Powell and works by David Childs; PolyPhonics will perform Anton Bruckner’s celebrated “Virga Jesse\,” as well as the West Coast premiere of Jocelyn Hagen’s “Let Your Heart Speak Music;” and the Chamber Choir will provide some comedic relief\, as well as present a mass setting by the legendary composer Giovanni Palestrina. \nThe concert will close with a special setting of the traditional carol “Silent Night.” \nPaul Woodring is the accompanist for the Cal Poly choirs\, which are conducted by Glysson. \nThose who attend the concert are invited to a post-concert talk and will be able to interact with students and Glysson. \n  \nTickets to the concert are $10. A $15 backstage pass ticket includes both the concert and the post-concert session. Tickets are sold through FeelitLive. \nThe event is sponsored by Cal Poly’s Music Department and College of Liberal Arts.
