SUMMARY:Third Annual 'Help 4 Hungry' Drive with Food 4 Less
DESCRIPTION:Ralphs and Food 4 Less announce the return of their Help 4 the Hungry food donation drive at stores throughout California. Now in its third year\, the month-long campaign raises awareness and funds to feed tens of thousands of people in need —  a need that has grown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. \nFrom November 23 through December 24\, shoppers can donate $1\, $5 or $10 at the register or by texting H4H to 41444. One hundred percent of proceeds benefit regional food banks in Los Angeles\, Orange County\, Riverside\, San Bernardino\, Santa Barbara\, San Diego and Ventura counties. \n“We are so grateful to our customers and community supporters who so generously choose to give to the campaign each year\,” said John Votava\, director\, corporate affairs\, Ralphs. “As a company\, Ralphs is working towards a bold goal of achieving a world with Zero Hunger | Zero Waste. The Help 4 the Hungry campaign is one of the many ways in which we reach that goal.” \nDonating is easy and available through multiple methods to accommodate everyone taking caution during the pandemic. Shoppers at Ralphs or Food 4 Less can ask the cashier to add a cash donation to their total at checkout or can make a donation anytime on a mobile phone by texting H4H to 41444 and following the prompts. Donations of any amount are encouraged. \nIn three years\,  the campaign has raised nearly $1\,000\,000 in cash donations and provided thousands of meals to help alleviate food insecurity in the region. Local food banks are experiencing high demand as more children\, families\, seniors\, veterans\, and communities of color struggle with economic hardship\, job loss\, homelessness during the pandemic\, and worry about how to keep up with the current pace. \n“We believe in ‘food first’ and that no matter who you are\, where you’re from\, how you shop or what you like to eat\, everyone deserves to have fresh\, affordable and easy-to-enjoy food that tastes amazing\, said Vanessa Rosales\, director\, corporate affairs\, Food 4 Less. “We are dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve\, and this holiday season is especially critical.” \nIn addition to the Help 4 the Hungry drive\, Ralphs and Food 4 Less will donate nearly $150\,000 which equates to 600\,000 meals to local community organizations working to end hunger as part of the company’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative. \n  \nMore information on how to donate can be found at Ralphs.com and Food4Less.com. \n  \nAbout Ralphs  \nAt Ralphs\, a company of The Kroger Co. SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Virtual Good Morning SLO - December
DESCRIPTION:View this month’s Good Morning SLO Flyers HERE \n\nGrab breakfast and coffee and join us for our final Good Morning SLO program of 2020. To preserve some community connection in this time of being apart\, you’ll have the chance to interact with speakers by asking your most pressing questions. Zoom invite will be sent upon registration. \n\nDecember topics include: \nHOSPITALS MOVE AHEAD\nThe technology for virtual doctor visits has existed for years but many of us hadn’t experienced a telehealth appointment until midway through 2020. Dr. Scott Bisheff will share his perspective on the future of healthcare and whether or not it’s arriving amidst one of the greatest challenges the system has ever experienced. \n\nFAMILY-FRIENDLY FLUKE?\nFirst 5 SLO County and We Are the Care have been working to create the Family-Friendly Workplace Toolkit\, but one of the changes they advocate for most fervently\, a flexible workplace\, has come to many offices as a byproduct of the COVID-19 pandemic. First 5 SLO County Executive Director Wendy Wendt will share how this new understanding might help reshape the way we work. \n\nSLO FORWARD\nGovernment doesn’t have the best reputation for acting nimbly\, and this year municipalities have been put to the test. SLO City Manager Derek Johnson will share how the City met this challenge\, shifted their operating structures\, acted rapidly to support business\, and the possibility of making these changes permanent. \n\nEATING LOCAL & STAYING SAFE\nWhen restaurants were forced to close at the onset of the pandemic\, local farms also felt the pressure — but soon after\, they experienced a resurgence of local customers at farmers’ markets\, signing up for Community Supported Agriculture boxes\, and showing up at farm stands. Agriculturalist of the Year Jerry Rutiz will share what that shift was like for Rutiz Farms and where they stand today. \n\nTHE PANDEMIC’S BEST FRIEND\nAmericans trying to fill the void with canine companions has arguably been the cutest buying frenzy of this year. Woods Humane Society CEO\, Neil Trent will share insights into the mass exodus of shelter pets and the problem no shelter ever thought they’d have — a shortage of animals to fill the endless demand for adoption. \n\nPEOPLE FINALLY WASH THEIR HANDS\nAt the start of this year\, no one would have imagined Dr. Penny Borenstein being a household name — especially her. And while she would be the first to admit that\, in a typical year\, public health is doing a good job when you forget it exists. County Health Officer Dr. Borenstein has some positive outcomes to share from this public health crisis and being thrust into the spotlight. \n\nHave you purchased your 2021 Annual Pass yet?\n\nDon’t miss a single program next year! All registered attendees also receive recorded recaps of the event. Click here to get yours before the discount expires Dec. 31!\n\nThank you to our 2020 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:\n
