SUMMARY:SLO Jewish Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:For 11 years\, the dream of this festival has been to share with our neighbors a broad spectrum of movies that celebrate the diversity of the Jewish experience. Short films\, dramas\, comedies and documentary gems from all over the world bring us stories that remind us of our shared humanity. More than great films\, our festival brings you intimate filmmaker conversations and lively discussions with community partners. We want you to be a part of the conversation\, so be sure to participate in the Kibbitz Room\, where you can chat with each other about the movies and your experiences.\n\n\nPasses and tickets are good for the entire festival run January 7–28\, 2021. You are welcome to watch your selection(s) as many times as you like during those dates. How great is that?! Tell your friends!

SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Virtual Good Morning SLO - January 2021
DESCRIPTION:View this month’s Good Morning SLO flyers HERE. \n\nGrab breakfast and coffee and join us for our first Good Morning SLO program of 2021. To preserve some community connection in this time of being apart\, you’ll have the chance to interact with speakers by asking your most pressing questions. Zoom invite will be sent upon registration. \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nJanuary topics include: \nSLO COUNTY’S V-TEAM\nSLO County is rapidly progressing through Phase 1 of vaccine distribution and has engaged a task force of nonprofit\, private and public sector professionals to help interpret the ever-evolving state and national guidance. Jen Miller\, the Vaccine Task Force Coordinator\, will share the latest on their work and what we can expect in the near future. \n\nCALIFORNIA EXODUS?\nIt seems as if every week there is another article extolling\, lamenting or arguing about the masses fleeing California for greener pastures. Jordan Levine\, Vice President & Chief Economist for the California Association of Realtors\, will break down the data\, discuss the drivers and touch on what we are actually seeing on the Central Coast.\n \n\nADVANCING DE&I\nAmid the national movement for racial equity and justice\, the City of SLO declared racism a public health emergency and created a task force to advance diversity\, equity and inclusion in San Luis Obispo. Beya Montero-Makekau\, who helped guide this group\, will offer a look back at where they’ve been and their recommendations for the future. \n\nI AM SOMEBODY\nAlong with excitement\, tectonic life changes can bring up questions about identity\, self-worth and purpose. Through his work with Wilshire Health and Community Services\, Bill Degnan provides a safe place to explore those feelings. He will share wisdom he’s gleaned from years of conversation and tools we can all use as we navigate our current shifting landscape. \n\nCOVID\, WILDLIFE & BEARS\, OH MY!\nThis last year has seen more people out of their cars and into nature\, potentially affecting the wildlife that inhabits it. Dave Hacker\, Senior Environmental Scientist at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife\, and the person responsible for “darting” the Los Osos bear\, will help us understand wildlife trends and share what happened when a bear returned to it’s namesake valley. \n\nA HOLIDAY RETAIL REVIEW\nReports of the holiday season are showing better than expected retail numbers\, especially from online sales. Jenny Kompolt\, co-owner of Junk Girls will share a review of what the holiday season looked like from the ground\, shopping trends they’re seeing\, and how the team is adapting to the ever-changing retail landscape. \n  \n\nThank you to our 2021 Annual Sponsors:

SUMMARY:SLO Jewish Film Festival: A Rabbi Explains
DESCRIPTION:CLOSING NIGHT: A RABBI EXPLAINS \nFeatured Movie: COMMANDMENT 613 \nCLICK HERE TO JOIN THE LIVE EVENT \nFor our final evening of the SLO Jewish Film Festival\, Rabbi Micah Hyman will take us on a journey through the history and restoration of the Czech Torah Scrolls. The 200 year-old Torahs from Czechoslovakia were rescued from the Holocaust.  We were amazed to learn one of the sacred Czech Torahs can be found at the Temple Beth El in Santa Maria.\n\nThis event falls on the Jewish holiday\, Tu B’shvat\, a day to celebrate trees. There will be an explanation about how honoring the history of these Torah scrolls also allows us to reflect on this holiday. It is also International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Join us for this closing program and be sure to have watched the featured film “Commandment 613”. It will serve as a mitzvah\, or a good commandment!\n\nThis event is hosted via ZOOM.
