SUMMARY:Webinar | Cal Poly Presents: Amazon Web Services Discovery Days
DESCRIPTION:Cal Poly will host its first Amazon Web Services (AWS) Discovery Days on April 14 and 21\, allowing students and professionals access to free one-day training events to introduce AWS cloud services. \nThe AWS Discovery Days are designed to provide a glimpse into a variety of cybersecurity\, cloud optimization\, digital literacy and high-tech topics with the goal of creating interest in and an overall understanding of cloud computing and AWS infrastructure services. \nOn April 14 from noon-3 p.m.\, Cal Poly will offer a Discovery Day session at the virtual UC Cyber Security Summit. On April 21 from 1-4 p.m.\, another Discovery Day session will be presented via Zoom. Both events offer a great way for interested individuals to learn more about AWS fundamental cloud concepts and services. \nThose who participate in a Discovery Day event will gain a deeper understanding of AWS core services and benefits. Learners will be able to define what the AWS Cloud is; recognize key services of the cloud\, such as compute\, storage\, database; understand how to deploy and operate the cloud; differentiate among AWS service domains; explain the shared responsibility model; and describe basic security and compliance aspects of the AWS platform. \n“Discovery Days provide the perfect opportunity for students to gain an overall understanding of AWS Cloud and AWS Cloud terminology so that they can decide in which direction to steer their future career\,” said Dianna Previs\, director of programming for Cal Poly Extended Education. “Participants will benefit from being taught by Cal Poly professors as well as testing out our motto of Learn by Doing.” \nCal Poly joined the AWS Network (APN) Training Partner Program in October. The program enables authorized instructors at the university to deliver training developed by AWS. Cal Poly Extended Education is partnering with CCI\, UpSkill California and California’s Employment Training Panel (ETP) to implement AWS trainings and offer them to students and professionals seeking to upskill or reskill and earn AWS certifications. \nTo learn more about this unique partnership and to register for the Discovery Day events\, visit Cal Poly’s AWS Training website. \n  \nAbout Cal Poly’s California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI) \nThe CCI serves as a public\, private and academic partnership to enhance the state of California’s cybersecurity response capability. Through research\, education and workforce development\, the CCI teaches current and future Californians how to protect the state\, decreasing the current 67\,195 unfilled cybersecurity positions in California. The CCI is a strategic partnership between the California Army National Guard\, California Office of Emergency Services\, California Highway Patrol and Cal Poly. www.cci.calpoly.edu \n  \nAbout Employment Training Panel (ETP) \nThe ETP has proven to be the Golden State’s premier program supporting job creation and retention through training. ETP fulfills its mission by reimbursing the cost of employer- customized job skills training for new and existing workers and funding the types of training needed by unemployed workers re-entering the workforce. www.etp.ca.gov \n  \nAbout Upskill California \nUpskill California is a proven community college network delivering statewide employer-driven workforce training programs. Employees at any stage in their careers can access these programs leading to career advancement and higher wages. www.elcaminobtc.com/collaborative/ \n  \nAbout Cal Poly Extended Education \nCal Poly Extended Education delivers high-quality innovative academic programs\, technical education and professional training programs to enable the regional workforce to reskill and upskill in today’s technology-driven marketplace. extended.calpoly.edu

SUMMARY:Front Porch Community Nights
DESCRIPTION:Front Porch is a free coffee house and community space located just off campus of Cal Poly. We primarily serve the student population of San Luis Obispo. Every Wednesday between March 31 and June 2\, we will have a food distribution from 4 to 5 for students to pick up ingredients to make a meal for their household at home\, or pick up prepared food to take home and share with their household. Food pickups are from our physical location\, 1468 E Foothill Boulevard. \nAt 6\, we have a community gathering where we do trivia or facilitate a discussion on current issues in our community at the local or national level. We hold these events either on zoom (zoom ID 805 805 1468) or outdoors and socially distanced at Throop Park.  We call this combination of food distribution and discussion/trivia “Front Porch Community Night.”

SUMMARY:Cal Poly Arts presents\, Nat Geo's "Women and Migration"
DESCRIPTION:Never before has the world been more tightly woven and the movement of people greater between and within continents and countries. Although COVID-19 has slowed migration\, in 2019 more than 270 million people—nearly half of them women—were living in countries other than the one where they were born. Drawn by the promise of a better future\, women increasingly have traveled to wealthier countries\, taking jobs in child- and eldercare and domestic work\, as well as manufacturing and agriculture—a shift described as “the feminization of migration.” For women who are forced to leave home because of famine or violence\, migration is a gamble for their very survival. \nPhotographers with The Everyday Projects\, who use their medium to challenge stereotypes and amplify storytellers worldwide\, have come together to document the impact of migration on women around the globe in a major National Geographic magazine feature and several online stories. The project was created with additional support from the National Geographic Society.
