DESCRIPTION:EL CAMINO HOMELESS ORGANIZATION EMPTY BOWLS EVENT RETURNS IN 2021 \n  \nEl Camino Homeless Organization is holding its annual Empty Bowls event on Thursday\, April 29\, 2021 at Atascadero Bible Church\, 6225 Atascadero Ave.\, Atascadero.  New this year\, is a DRIVE THRU pick up from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event features delectable soups\, stews and chowders from local restaurant chefs and artisan breads from local bakeries. Reprising their role are local celebrities coming to serve attendees in their cars.  Each meal includes soup and bread for a family of 4 and desserts too! \nTickets are available for purchase through the ECHO website at www.echoshelter.org/empty-bowls-2021 for a family meal serving 4 people for $50 or $60 with a souvenir hand crafted empty bowl.  Everyone is encouraged to participate to support ECHO and its mission of helping those facing homelessness in our community. \nECHO is seeking assistance from the restaurant community and asking for donations of soup for the event.  Any restaurant willing to do so can contact event organizer Greer Woodruff at greer@scoutrentalco.com. \n  \nECHO operates three safe and secure overnight shelters in Atascadero and Paso Robles to meet the immediate needs of families and individuals who have become homeless.  With ECHO Atascadero’s unique residency program\, clients are provided case management services to assist them in securing a job and finding permanent and sustainable housing within three months of entering the shelter program.  While enrolled in the program\, clients are taught life skills for employment\, budgeting\, health care management and social communication and interaction.  The goal and the result of this practical support is the empowerment of residents to move in a positive direction while assisting them in acquiring the skills and services they need to become self-sustaining\, including secure housing. \nA force of 1\,500 community volunteers provides ancillary support to run the facilities and meal programs at each location serving over 100 meals each evening to shelter residents and the homeless population. \nFor more information\, please visit our website at www.echoshelter.org.

DESCRIPTION:Hospice SLO County seeks entries for Fourth Annual “On this Side of Goodbye”  \nCommunity members are encouraged to submit essays\, poetry and artwork to spread awareness \n  \nHospice SLO County is holding the Fourth Annual “On this Side of Goodbye” contest in recognition of National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) on April 16. \nCommunity members are invited to submit their experiences with saying goodbye in times of dying through essays\, poetry or artwork throughout the month of April. Three chosen entries will be publicized on their website. \n“Experiencing the death of someone in our life is unique for each of us\,” said Shannon McOuat\, Executive Director of Hospice SLO County. “We might find ourselves touched or challenged in unexpected ways. This is an opportunity to honor\, create\, express\, share\, and remember those who have died in our lives.” \nThe annual “On This Side of Goodbye” contest aims to spread awareness about the importance of advance care planning. NHDD exists to inspire\, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning. NHDD stresses the importance of talking with your loved ones about your health care wishes and documenting those wishes by completing an advance directive. \n“The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has made advance care planning more meaningful for many people\,” said McOuat. \nFor over 40 years\, Hospice SLO County has provided free services to individuals coping with a life-limiting illness\, end of life or grief. Among other services\, professionally trained volunteers and staff provide individual and group grief counseling for those who are grieving the death of a loved one. The volunteer hospice organization also provides in-home respite for caregivers\, an End-of-Life Doula program\, and a Pet Peace of Mind program. Services are offered throughout San Luis Obispo County. \n  \nEntries are due Thursday\, April 29\, 2021 at 4:00 pm. \nAcceptable mediums include essays\, poetry and artwork. \n  \nTo download guidelines and registration forms\, please visit https://hospiceslo.org/events/4th-annual-on-this-side-of-goodbye \nAny community member in San Luis Obispo County may submit an essay\, a poem or a piece of artwork. Individuals under 18 years of age will need a parent or guardian’s signature. \nFor grief counseling services\, please call Hospice SLO County at (805) 544-2266. \n  \n### \n  \nHospice of San Luis Obispo County\, a local\, 501(c) 3 non-profit\, volunteer\, non-medical hospice\, has been providing county-wide in-home respite care\, emotional support\, practical assistance\, and comfort to individuals who are experiencing the impact of a life-limiting illness since 1977. The organization also offers grief-counseling services\, including individual\, family and group counseling\, to anyone grieving the death of a loved one. All Hospice SLO County services are provided at no charge and are supported through direct donations and fundraising events.
