SUMMARY:Christmas Care Packages with United Way
DESCRIPTION:United Way of San Luis Obispo County Announces Community Assistance Needed-Care Packages for Christmas \nFor the past 24 years\, on Christmas Day\, the San Luis Obispo community has generously provided our County’s homeless/underserved population with a wonderful home-cooked holiday dinner\, live musical entertainment and essential warm winter clothing/sleeping bag care packages. \nThe COVID pandemic has exacerbated many domestic crises particularly homelessness and food insecurity. The dueling realities of both homelessness and the pandemic make these individuals and families one of the most vulnerable populations throughout the U.S. and here in San Luis Obispo. Many of these folks are already in poorer health than the general population and have had reduced access to basic services and shelter. \nThis Christmas\, a delicious dinner and new winter clothing care package items will be distributed at the Odd Fellows Hall in a ‘to-go’ manner for both walk-in and drive-through clients. Additionally\, pre-packaged ‘to-go’ meals and care packages will also be distributed at 40 Prado and several pre-designated locations through San Luis Obispo County. Last year\, 600 meals were served. \nDespite the stringent safety precautions we will be adhering to\, we hope to spread a little joy and trust that the care packages provided will help the local homeless population endure our cold wet winters. \nWe are in tremendous need of financial assistance this year. Please help us to continue this tradition by donating to the Care Packages for Christmas fund. You can donate on the United Way of SLO County website at www.unitedwayslo.org and click on the Care Packages for Christmas icon. \nAlso\, checks can also be mailed to:\nUnited Way San Luis Obispo County\nPO Box 14309\nSan Luis Obispo\, CA 93406\nPlease write “Care Packages for Christmas” on the memo line. \nAll donations are tax-deductible. For more information about this event\, please contact Sheri Eibschutz at sherie5678@aol.com or leave a message at 805-594-1999.\nWe invite you to join us to support this critical work in our community by making a donation to Care Packages for Christmas this holiday season. Visit www.unitedwayslo.org/donate or call\n805-541-1234. \nThank you in advance for this consideration!

SUMMARY:"I'd Tell You If I Could"
DESCRIPTION:Now on view: “I’d Tell You If I Could” features paintings by U.K-based artist William Brickel. \nThe figures in William Brickel’s work presented in this exhibition are partly representations of himself\, but are also standalone actors that perform emotional distress for us to see. Each figure is absorbed in their two-dimensional world\, as the viewer is aware of their emotional intensity. Both intimately personal and emotionally closed off\, Brickel projects his face onto his subject matter. For Brickel\, these scenes are representations of his lived experience and each canvas is a window into a relatable state of vulnerability. This exhibition will be on display until February 5\, 2022.

SUMMARY:‘HELP 4 THE HUNGRY’ DRIVE
DESCRIPTION:RALPHS AND FOOD 4 LESS KICK OFF SEASON OF GIVING WITH THIRD ANNUAL ‘HELP 4 THE HUNGRY’ DRIVE \n Donate at more than 300 Ralphs and Food 4 Less stores November 22—December 31  \n  \nRalphs and Food 4 Less announce the return of their Help 4 the Hungry food donation drive at stores throughout California. Now in its third year\, the month-long campaign raises awareness and funds to feed tens of thousands of people in need —  a need that has grown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. \nFrom November 22 through December 31\, shoppers can donate $1\, $5 or $10 at the register or by texting H4H to 41444. One hundred percent of proceeds benefit regional food banks in Los Angeles\, Orange County\, Riverside\, San Bernardino\, Santa Barbara\, San Diego and Ventura counties. \n“We are so grateful to our customers and community supporters who so generously choose to give to the campaign each year\,” said John Votava\, director\, corporate affairs\, Ralphs. “As a company\, Ralphs is working towards a bold goal of achieving a world with Zero Hunger | Zero Waste. The Help 4 the Hungry campaign is one of the many ways in which we reach that goal.” \n  \nDonating is easy and available through multiple methods to accommodate everyone taking caution during the pandemic. Shoppers at Ralphs or Food 4 Less can ask the cashier to add a cash donation to their total at checkout or can make a donation anytime on a mobile phone by texting H4H to 41444 and following the prompts. Donations of any amount are encouraged. \n  \nIn four years\,  the campaign has raised more than $1\,000\,000 in cash donations and provided thousands of meals to help alleviate food insecurity in the region. Local food banks are experiencing high demand as more children\, families\, seniors\, veterans\, and communities of color struggle with economic hardship\, job loss\, homelessness during the pandemic\, and worry about how to keep up with the current pace. \n“We believe in ‘food first’ and that no matter who you are\, where you’re from\, how you shop or what you like to eat\, everyone deserves to have fresh\, affordable and easy-to-enjoy food that tastes amazing\, said Vanessa Rosales\, director\, corporate affairs\, Food 4 Less. “We are dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve\, and this holiday season is especially critical.” \nIn addition to the Help 4 the Hungry drive\, Ralphs and Food 4 Less will donate nearly $150\,000 which equates to 600\,000 meals to local community organizations working to end hunger as part of the company’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative. \n  \nMore information on how to donate can be found at Ralphs.com and Food4Less.com. \n  \nAbout Ralphs  \nAt Ralphs\, a company of The Kroger Co. SUMMARY:SLO Museum of Art Presents | Marrin Lee Martinez: Touchy Touchy
DESCRIPTION:The objects on display in this exhibition are a collection of kinetic creatures that explore a mother’s physical sensitivity to their child’s constant touch. Visitors are invited to interact with the forms\, as suggested by adjacent action words. This action is a symbolic provoking of “The Mother\,” who in turn reacts dramatically\, becoming a spectacle for others to witness. Created by artist Marrin Lee Martinez\, each work embodies her feelings in Motherhood; an experience that is both chaotic and magical. She references frenetic energy with bright colors – both attractive and mysterious – giving visuals to some of the most complex emotions a parent feels when caring for their child. Do you dare climb\, poke\, spin\, push\, or tug? If you do\, please be gentle. We wouldn’t want Mom to freak out! \nAbout the Artist\nMarrin Lee Martinez (b. 1989) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working on California’s Central Coast. Through her creative work and community engagement\, she is an advocate for maternal mental health. In Motherhood\, Marrin has found rhythm in the visual arts. Her work has been shown at several cause-driven events\, including Phase One Foundation’s Art vs. Cancer at Various Small Fires in Los Angeles. Marrin earned her Undergraduate Degree from Emerson College\, followed by a vibrant career in the Performing Arts. Notably\, she has performed at LACMA’s Bing Theatre\, internationally with The Walt Disney Company\, and taught dance at private studios all over Southern California. \n\nThe Museum of Art is open from 11 AM to 5 PM\, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Admission is free.
