SUMMARY:"I'd Tell You If I Could"
DESCRIPTION:Now on view: “I’d Tell You If I Could” features paintings by U.K-based artist William Brickel. \nThe figures in William Brickel’s work presented in this exhibition are partly representations of himself\, but are also standalone actors that perform emotional distress for us to see. Each figure is absorbed in their two-dimensional world\, as the viewer is aware of their emotional intensity. Both intimately personal and emotionally closed off\, Brickel projects his face onto his subject matter. For Brickel\, these scenes are representations of his lived experience and each canvas is a window into a relatable state of vulnerability. This exhibition will be on display until February 5\, 2022.

SUMMARY:SLO Museum of Art Presents | Marrin Lee Martinez: Touchy Touchy
DESCRIPTION:The objects on display in this exhibition are a collection of kinetic creatures that explore a mother’s physical sensitivity to their child’s constant touch. Visitors are invited to interact with the forms\, as suggested by adjacent action words. This action is a symbolic provoking of “The Mother\,” who in turn reacts dramatically\, becoming a spectacle for others to witness. Created by artist Marrin Lee Martinez\, each work embodies her feelings in Motherhood; an experience that is both chaotic and magical. She references frenetic energy with bright colors – both attractive and mysterious – giving visuals to some of the most complex emotions a parent feels when caring for their child. Do you dare climb\, poke\, spin\, push\, or tug? If you do\, please be gentle. We wouldn’t want Mom to freak out! \nAbout the Artist\nMarrin Lee Martinez (b. 1989) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working on California’s Central Coast. Through her creative work and community engagement\, she is an advocate for maternal mental health. In Motherhood\, Marrin has found rhythm in the visual arts. Her work has been shown at several cause-driven events\, including Phase One Foundation’s Art vs. Cancer at Various Small Fires in Los Angeles. Marrin earned her Undergraduate Degree from Emerson College\, followed by a vibrant career in the Performing Arts. Notably\, she has performed at LACMA’s Bing Theatre\, internationally with The Walt Disney Company\, and taught dance at private studios all over Southern California. \n\nThe Museum of Art is open from 11 AM to 5 PM\, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Virtual Good Morning SLO - January 2022
DESCRIPTION:Your community newspaper brought to life. \nGood Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas\, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders\, business owners\, nonprofit executives and staffers together\, and enables us to reconnect\, engage and learn from each other. \nOur goal is to provide insight into business\, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives. \nGood Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nMANY YEARS AND EVEN MORE MILES\n \nTo celebrate a milestone anniversary\, a local couple committed to tackling the daunting Pacific Crest Trail together. With the adventure now in the rear view\, Joan and Larry Parker will share highlights of the trek and what they learned during their 2\,650 mile walk from Southern California to the Canadian border. \n\nFARM FRESH TO YOUR DOOR\n \nGrowing up\, Walter Lafky sold tomatoes from his family’s farm but always felt there was a disconnect between the customer and the farmer. As a Cal Poly student\, he founded Harvestly with the goal of bridging that gap. Walter will share how Harvestly brings farmers’ markets to doorsteps across the Central Coast while supporting dozens of small vendors along the way. \n\nTHE MONARCH BUTTERFLY EFFECT\n \nEvery fall\, thousands of monarchs butterflies migrate to SLO County from across the Western US — or they used to. Biologist Jessica Griffiths will share more about why they’re declining\, theories on this year’s rebound\, what they need to thrive\, and how you can help them on their journey. \n\nTALK TAXES TO ME \nWith a slew of recent government programs\, filing your taxes correctly this year will likely take more foresight and preparation. Chris Delaney\, tax senior manager at Glenn Burdette will share how to prepare for success and offer a few recommendations every one needs to consider. \n\nTEAMWORK MAKES THE DRUM BEAT \nThe challenges of COVID have left schools across the country facing a sense of fragmentation with many students lacking motivation and falling behind. DrumPerks founder Sean Sullivan will share how interactive drumming\, singing and dancing activities are boosting student morale\, teaching teamwork and building skills for social and academic success. \n\nINTRODUCING OUR 2022 CHAIRPERSON \nA new year brings a new Board Chair at the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce. While there continue to be challenges from the pandemic\, there are countless opportunities as well. Your 2022 Board Chair LeBren Harris will share her vision for the future\, exciting possibilities over the horizon\, and the Chamber’s priorities for the coming year. \n  \n\nThank you to our 2022 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:

SUMMARY:Surfing For Hope Hosts SLO Cal Open 2022
DESCRIPTION:Four day surf contest at the Pismo Pier \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen Surfing For Hope hosts a World Surf League Qualifying Series surf contest\, young California athletes are able to compete at the most important and recognizable events in their sport without having to leave the state or travel great distances. This also includes the ability to earn valuable WSL Qualifying Series points\, compete against international athletes\, and gain valuable competition experience.  We believe that several annual WSL Qualifying Series events are needed for California’s young athletes to maintain the same level of performance taking place around the world in other surfing regions.  Being able to compete in multiple events per year in California builds an athlete’s self-esteem and skill levels while remaining affordable as a local sport where they can drive to each event. \n
