SUMMARY:SLO Museum of Art Presents: For the Sake of Keeping
DESCRIPTION:For the Sake of Keeping is an exhibition of contemporary fine craft artworks created in the spirit of remembrance and commemoration. It will be on display at the SLO Museum of Art from June 3rd – August 1st\, 2022. \n“As a curator who frequently visits artists’ studios\, I find that many are in their homes where their most precious possessions are also on display. Their spaces are often filled with work by fellow artists\, trinkets\, or common objects that have been transformed into keepsakes. Occasionally\, artists even hang on their own walls work they created that was never meant for public viewing\, but rather an intimate reflection of their own personal practice. The visits and conversations that occur around these objects allow for deeper insights into the artist’s identity and the world they create for themselves. \nDuring my time visiting the studios of members of the Central Coast Craftmakers\, I have become more and more curious about the personal nature of craftmaking and the objects’ intimate and relatable origins. The artworks on display in this exhibition were all selected because of the story or intention they hold for the artist\, and the living attempt to preserve their own most precious memories. Many pieces even left the interior walls of the artist’s or loved ones’ homes to be displayed here at the Museum. Some were meant to be gifted to children\, some meant to commemorate a moment\, some even meant to house cremated ashes — what connects all these works together is the unmistakable intention to remember.” \nThis exhibition is hosted in partnership with the Central Coast Craftmakers. \nWritten by Courtney Davis\, Curator of For the Sake of Keeping

SUMMARY:Spokes Presents: Gift Acceptance Policies Online Class
DESCRIPTION:Spokes: Resources for Nonprofits Presents: Gift Acceptance Policies\, an online class that will take place over Zoom where you can learn the basics of gift acceptance policies including why you need one and what goes in it. \nGifts? Donations? Contributions? Call them what you will\, all nonprofits rely on them. For some\, gifts represent their main source of income. For others\, gifts may provide the subsidy that enables a program to be better or to serve more people. \nGifts can come in many forms. Cash\, stocks\, and in-kind goods or services are typical examples. Then there are more exotic items people may wish to donate to your cause such as a piece of property\, a lovely oil painting\, or the timeshare they wish they’d never purchased. Join us to learn “why you need a gift acceptance policy before you need a gift acceptance policy.” Topics will include: \n\nDeveloping a policy that fits your organization—what goes in it for sure\, what’s optional\nKeeping the board of directors involved and aware\nUnderstanding the IRS concept of “non-standard contributions”\nProtecting your organization from the gift that “never stops taking”\nHow to gracefully decline a gift not in alignment with your policy\n\nInstructor: Gillian Cole-Andrews\, CFRE \nThis class will take place on June 22nd\, 2022 from 11 AM – 12 PM.  Admission is $25.00 for not-yet members and $10.00 for Spokes Members. The Zoom link will be sent with registration acknowledgement. \nVisit the website to register and for additional information.

SUMMARY:She & Him at Vina Robles
DESCRIPTION:Duo She & Him bring their indie pop sound to the stage of Vina Robles Amphitheatre\, for the first time\, Wednesday\, June 22. Tickets go on sale Friday\, April 1\, at 10AM via Ticketmaster. \nThe concert is a Nederlander Concerts production. \nZooey Deschanel and Matt Ward\, aka She & Him\, are as comfortable and complementary a musical pair as Les Paul and Mary Ford. Matt and Zooey make music for an eternal springtime\, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up. They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers; the rain may be coming down\, but somewhere nearby\, everything looks bright. What began as a fascinating no-strings-attached collaboration has evolved into a bona fide touring band\, and She & Him are here to stay.
