SUMMARY:Alyssa Monks: Be Perfectly Still\, A Retrospective
DESCRIPTION:The SLO Museum of Art is pleased to present the first museum retrospective by contemporary artist Alyssa Monks. The exhibition will bring together paintings that span the arc of Monks’ career\, from the early 2000’s to works created during the pandemic. Through paintings that are expressive\, lush\, and often intimate\, Monks conveys the very essence of being human through works that meditate on love\, loss\, and the perennial search for self. \nThe paintings included in this exhibition feature large-scale portraits of Monks and those closest to her\, portrayed in vulnerable or intimate contexts. Often capturing fragmented elements of a scene\, or layering together various spaces and moments\, Monks’ works disorient the viewer and invite reflection on one’s own vulnerability. Through the use of thickly applied brushstrokes\, and her tendency to flip the background and foreground in her work using semi-transparent filters of glass\, vinyl\, steam\, water and or foliage over shallow spaces\, Monks creates surface tension in her work that eschews easy interpretation of her subject matter. \nThis exhibit is showing from August 27th – November 13th at the SLO Museum of Art. See SLOMA website for more details.

SUMMARY:Whale Rock Music and Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:Founded by a family of Paso Robles winemaking pioneers\, Whale Rock Music & Arts Festival organically came about by way of the Udsen family’s longtime commitment to supporting the arts and their local community. \nNiels & Bimmer Udsen established Castoro Cellars in 1983\, and together with sons Luke and Max and daughter in law Lauren\, threw a rockin’ 30th anniversary party they called Beaverstock in 2013. The event was such a hit that they decided to make it an annual gig\, and have been at it ever since. Growing considerably over its first four years\, Beaverstock attendance hit a record 4\,000 in 2016. \nThe family changed the name of the festival in 2017\, courtesy of the Woodstock folks and their attorneys taking issue with the Beaverstock moniker. Whale Rock Music & Arts Festival was their natural choice\, as the event takes place in the Udsen’s Whale Rock Vineyard. No matter the name\, the spirit\, format\, and soul of the original event lives on. \nProceeds from the inaugural fest were donated to MUST! Charities\, a local non-profit that supports under privileged children in the local community. The family has continued that benevolent tradition each year\, donating proceeds to both the Templeton Education Foundation and the Templeton High School Band. The Udsens are proud to say that contributions to date total more than $100\,000! \n2022 Lineup

SUMMARY:Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center Presents: Bird Hike at Oso Flaco Lake
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n\nJoin the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center on September 17 at 8 am while our hike docent\, John Deacon leads a bird hike through Oso Flaco Lake\, through the dunes and out to the ocean (about 3 miles round trip). \nEarly fall is a great time to observe birds at Oso Flaco. In fact\, it’s the best time of the year to see Pied Billed Grebes\, Common Yellowthroats\, Bewick’s Wrens\, Black Crowned Night Herons\, Green Herons\, Marbled Godwits and Greater Yellowlegs.  As usual\, we should also get good looks at Snowy Plovers.  While it will be a bit early to see migrating Gray Whales\, we could get a look at some of the early whales heading to their southern breeding waters.

SUMMARY:Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center Presents: Coastal Clean up at Rancho Guadalupe Beach
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday\, September 17th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. \n\nThe largest volunteer effort in California\, Coastal Cleanup Day is our day to give back to the ocean\, beaches\, and creeks that make Santa Barbara County such a wonderful place to live. Get outside\, enjoy nature\, and remove marine debris from our beaches and waterways. \nEach site will have a captain on hand to provide necessary instructions and supplies. You can bring their own gloves\, buckets\, and other reusable cleanup supplies to lessen the plastic footprint of this event. \nIf you can’t make the cleanup on the 17th\, we encourage you to cleanup any time during the month of September and your cleanup data will be included as part of Coastal Cleanup Day! \n\nSign up here! \nDid you know Americans produce more than 230 pounds of plastic waste every year per person? You can reduce your impact by choosing eco-friendly substitutes and reusable products\, instead of single-use plastic that can enter and pollute our waters. \n\nLocation: Rancho Guadalupe Beach \n  \nAddress: \n699 West Main Street\nGuadalupe\, CA\, 93434

SUMMARY:ECOSLO Presents: SLO County Creeks to Coast Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join ECOSLO and partners all across SLO County in taking care of our beaches\, creeks\, waterways\, and parks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFormerly known as Coastal Cleanup Day and Creek Day – this year ECOSLO has joined forces with the Central Coast Partners for Water Quality to bring you an even bigger and better event – SLO County Creeks to Coast Cleanup!  This year\, join us as we track data and cleanup not only our beautiful coastline\, but several inland creeks\, lakes\, and parks throughout SLO County.  \nSince 2005\, ECOSLO coordinates beach cleanups from San Simeon to Nipomo as part of an international day of cleanup. Even though Central Coast beaches are cleaner than some\, last year we removed nearly 4\,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches\, waterways and lakes. \nFor the past 10 years\, Central Coast Partners for Water Quality have hosted Creek Day in late September. They’ve been tackling the creeks and inland sites – working to pick up heavy loads of trash to prevent that debris from eventually finding its way to the ocean. \nThis year\, we’re combining efforts to bring all of SLO County together to clean our beautiful watersheds and coastline – from the creeks to the coast! \nPlease click ‘Register’ to view the cleanups sites available to volunteer at.  Locations are listed from North county to South county. Complete your registration and you’ll be confirmed for that location! Please check our event page for more information http://ecoslo.org/creeks-to-coast which include: \n\n\n\nsite map & directions\nwaiver\nevent flyers and graphics\nlocal sponsors\nand additional details on the cleanup\n\n\n\nPlease note that we ask you to signup online via this Eventbrite registration as it helps us anticipate supplies needed for each site. You do not need to bring your ticket with you. \nThis year you are able to add a donation with your ticket which will go toward supporting all data-driven cleanups that ECOSLO hosts throughout the year! Your donation makes a big difference in making the work of our nonprofit in the SLO County community possible – thank you in advance. And\, thank you for supporting ECOSLO to bring our community the SLO County Creeks to Coast Cleanup event for 2022! \n\n—FAQs— \n  \nAre there minimum age requirements to participate? \nVolunteers of all ages are welcome. Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to have a waiver signed by an adult. If an adult is not coming with you\, please have a parent or guardian sign the form in advance and bring it with you. You can download a waiver on our website. \nHow can I contact the organizer with any questions? \nVisit ECOSLO’s website for more information at http://ecoslo.org/creeks-to-coast. \nDo I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? \nNo\, you do not have to bring your ticket.  The ticket simply helps us plan supplies for each location. \nWhere should I park? \nParking varies by location. Please check each site for specifics. \nCan I sign up a group? \nYes! Creeks to Coast Cleanup is a great volunteer opportunity for groups. We kindly ask that you make sure to pre-register your group so we can plan for enough cleanup supplies. We may put you in contact with the Cleanup Site Captain for coordination. \nWhat should I bring? \nCleanup supplies will be provided. However\, ECOSLO is encouraging volunteers to BYO – Bring Your Own reusable gloves\, bags or buckets\, and reusable water bottles & low-waste to reduce waste to help decrease the plastic footprint of the cleanup. \nWhat should I wear? \nWear closed toed shoes – for creek and park cleanup locations you may want to consider boots and ones that are waterproof.  Dress in comfortable clothing and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.  It’s a good idea to dress in or bring layers! \nWe also encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle\, wear sunscreen\, and other sun protection like hats or sunglasses. \nCan I receive community service hours? \nOf course! It is required that you bring your forms and have your Cleanup Site Captain sign them after the cleanup so you can get your community service hours.  ECOSLO and our partner organizations DO NOT provide community service forms. \nIs registration required? \nRegistration is not required\, but highly recommended. \nCan I be a Cleanup Site Captain? \nCreeks to Coast Cleanup is possible because of our dedicated site captains. \nIf you or your organization is interested\, please contact ECOSLO at: programs@ecoslo.org or call (805) 544-1777

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n♦ SHOW INFORMATION ♦ \nSaturday\, September 17\, 2022 \nDoor Time- 7:00 PM \nShow Time- 8:00 PM \nALL AGES \nTICKETS ON SALE NOW! \nTier 1: $57 – $64 \nTier 2: $47 – $54 \nTier 3: $37 – $44 \n♦ ABOUT THE PERFORMER ♦ \nComedian\, actor\, television writer\, author and musician Paul Reiser is one of Hollywood’s most prolific creatives—and he shows no signs of slowing down. \nReiser is starring in two hit shows for Netflix: Stranger Things as Dr. Sam Owens\, in a role created by the Duffer Brothers specifically for Reiser\, and Chuck Lorre’s The Kominsky Method\, for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Reiser received rave reviews for the latter\, where he delivered a moving soliloquy on life and loss in a scene that MediaPost says “will stand… as one of the finest moments seen anywhere on television.” Reiser returned for the third and final season of The Kominsky Method\, streaming now on Netflix. The multi-faceted actor also revived one of his most iconic roles in the highly-anticipated return of Mad About You\, the long-running hit 90s comedy Reiser co-created and starred in with Helen Hunt. The Emmy\, Peabody and Golden Globe-winning comedy ended in May 1999 and premiered 20 years later as a limited series on Spectrum Originals. All seven seasons of the original Mad About You and the reboot are available for streaming on Amazon Prime. \nReiser was also seen on Amazon’s Red Oaks for three seasons in a role singled out as “one of his absolute finest\, not just of late\, but of ever”—and in Mad Men creator Matt Weiner’s limited Amazon series The Romanoff’s alongside Christina Hendricks and Isabelle Huppert. Additionally\, Reiser joined Sam Rockwell\, Michelle Williams and producers Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tommy Kale in FX’s Emmy-nominated Fosse/Verdon. \nThroughout his prolific career\, Reiser has worked with both independent and mainstream filmmakers. Reiser earned acclaim for his supporting roles in the Academy Award-winning film Whiplash\, John McDonagh’s War on Everyone and frequent collaborator Jeff Baena’s The Little Hours and Horse Girl\, which premiered at Sundance 2020 and is the fourth film the pair has worked on together. The veteran actor has garnered praise for notable performances in films such as Diner\, Bye Bye Love\, Aliens\, One Night At McCool’s\, Beverly Hills Cop I/II and The Thing About My Folks\, which Reiser wrote for his co-star Peter Falk. Recently\, Reiser starred alongside Kevin Hart in the touching comedy Fatherhood\, out now on Netflix. \nReiser is a fixture behind the camera as well. He co-created and co-produced There’s Johnny!\, a seven-episode series which originally streamed on Hulu and now streams on Peacock. The show\, co-created with filmmaker David Steven Simon and co-produced with David Gordon Green in conjunction with The Carson Company\, premiered to critical praise\, with Decider saying There’s Johnny! is “a television experience unlike any I’ve seen on TV in recent years” and “unfolds like a dream\, a memory fondly recalled.” \nReiser’s first book\, Couplehood\, sold over two million copies and reached the number one spot on The New York Times best sellers list. His subsequent books\, Babyhood and Familyhood\, were best sellers as well. Reiser regularly performs standup at sold-out venues nationwide and was voted one of the “Top 100 Comedians of All Time” by Comedy Central. \nReiser\, a SUNY Binghamton graduate in the prestigious music program\, co-wrote the theme song from Mad About You\, “The Final Frontier\,” with Grammy-winning producer Don Was. He released an album of original songs with British singer-songwriter Julia Fordham called Unusual Suspects. Over the course of his career\, Reiser has received multiple Emmy\, Golden Globe\, American Comedy Award and Screen Actors Guild nominations.
