SUMMARY:Alyssa Monks: Be Perfectly Still\, A Retrospective
DESCRIPTION:The SLO Museum of Art is pleased to present the first museum retrospective by contemporary artist Alyssa Monks. The exhibition will bring together paintings that span the arc of Monks’ career\, from the early 2000’s to works created during the pandemic. Through paintings that are expressive\, lush\, and often intimate\, Monks conveys the very essence of being human through works that meditate on love\, loss\, and the perennial search for self. \nThe paintings included in this exhibition feature large-scale portraits of Monks and those closest to her\, portrayed in vulnerable or intimate contexts. Often capturing fragmented elements of a scene\, or layering together various spaces and moments\, Monks’ works disorient the viewer and invite reflection on one’s own vulnerability. Through the use of thickly applied brushstrokes\, and her tendency to flip the background and foreground in her work using semi-transparent filters of glass\, vinyl\, steam\, water and or foliage over shallow spaces\, Monks creates surface tension in her work that eschews easy interpretation of her subject matter. \nThis exhibit is showing from August 27th – November 13th at the SLO Museum of Art. DESCRIPTION:Our mission is to provide safe\, immediate\, high-quality housing solutions for sheltered and unsheltered women veterans utilizing our rapid re-housing initiative. \n\nOur goal is to seek out and serve\, homeless women veterans who are sheltered and unsheltered\, open to receiving help to secure a home of their own on a working farm which offers veterans resources\, career and education resources\, camaraderie\, discipline\, and a multitude of supportive services. \n\nLike you\, our vision is to support veterans faced with the unfortunate circumstance of homeless. OpWEBS is creating a tiny house on wheels (THOW)\, working farm community where women veterans will be encouraged to rebuild their lives through empowerment\, camaraderie\, and community support away from the distractions of day to day life. \nOpWEBS has uniquely distinguished itself as a primary source of supportive services\, specifically for women veterans. It is my honor to present to you an opportunity to collaborate on future projects and events which support our mission\, vision\, and goals. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:The Quality of Life\n\nWritten by Jane Anderson\nDirected by Rosh Wright\nArtistic Direction by Michael Siebrass \n\nShow Times\nNovember 4 – November 5\, 2022\n–Fri @ 7 pm\n-Sat @ 2 pm & 7 pm \n\nAbout\nSet in the Berkeley hills after a major fire\, Jane Anderson’s 2007 play introduces us to Jeannette\, an earthy\, high-spirited woman whose husband\, Neil\, is dying of cancer. When her cousin Dinah from Ohio comes for a visit with her husband\, Bill\, the two couples — one solidly on the left\, the other resolute in their conservative Christian beliefs — are made to confront their huge dissimilarities. \nAbout Ubu’s Other Shoe & Staged Readings\nA staged reading is a form of theatre without sets or full costumes and props. The actors read from scripts\, sometimes using music stands. They may be seated\, stand in fixed positions\, or incorporate minimal stage movement. \nSLO REP’s staged reading series is named after the infamous trilogy of plays written by Alfred Jarry (Ubu Roi) that were banned from the stage after riots erupted on opening night. Ubu’s Other Shoe pays homage to the spirit of Jarry and to all artists who strive to explore the fringes of their art. This exciting series exists to offer actors\, directors and audience members an opportunity to experience incredible plays that do not necessarily fit into our regular main stage season.
