SUMMARY:Alyssa Monks: Be Perfectly Still\, A Retrospective
DESCRIPTION:The SLO Museum of Art is pleased to present the first museum retrospective by contemporary artist Alyssa Monks. The exhibition will bring together paintings that span the arc of Monks’ career\, from the early 2000’s to works created during the pandemic. Through paintings that are expressive\, lush\, and often intimate\, Monks conveys the very essence of being human through works that meditate on love\, loss\, and the perennial search for self. \nThe paintings included in this exhibition feature large-scale portraits of Monks and those closest to her\, portrayed in vulnerable or intimate contexts. Often capturing fragmented elements of a scene\, or layering together various spaces and moments\, Monks’ works disorient the viewer and invite reflection on one’s own vulnerability. Through the use of thickly applied brushstrokes\, and her tendency to flip the background and foreground in her work using semi-transparent filters of glass\, vinyl\, steam\, water and or foliage over shallow spaces\, Monks creates surface tension in her work that eschews easy interpretation of her subject matter. \nThis exhibit is showing from August 27th – November 13th at the SLO Museum of Art. See SLOMA website for more details.

SUMMARY:Paso Wine Alliance Courageous & Compassionate Communication
DESCRIPTION:Courageous & Compassionate Communication\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, November 10\nSeminar led by Tres Jiménez\nOxford Suites\n800 4th Street\, Paso Robles\n9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.\nIn the time that we are living in\, we often find that differing perspectives divide us\, preventing us from communicating and connecting with people who have different values and perspectives\, yet we need to find a way to work and live together in ways that allow us to be authentic in our own ways\, work through conflict\, and find ways to get things done together.   This workshop invites all of us to see that there are a wider variety of perspectives to consider and learn about\, and that we can have different views but still work to find common ground that is based in respect and compassion. \n  \nIn this 2.5 hour workshop\, we will learn skills and tools to build confidence in planning for and conducting tough conversations at work and in our personal lives. \n  \nParticipants will:  \n\nStrengthen Emotional Intelligence through self-awareness of values\, perspectives\, and judgements so that we can better self-manage our emotions and reactions when faced with tough conversations\, communication\, and conflict.\nLearn Social-Awareness strategies of curiosity and empathy which expand our perspectives and enable us to appreciate the values of others\, even if we don’t agree or align with them.\nDevelop greater patience and compassion for “staying in” the conversation so that we can make clear requests of others when needed\, we can communicate clear expectations and boundaries for ourselves\, and we can allow space for differing perspectives by finding common ground and the ability to move forward together.\n\n  \nYour facilitator: Tres Jiménez\, Activate Inclusion \nThis will be Tres’ fifth year of creating interactive workshops for the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance. Tres coaches and consults with a variety of industries and at every level of leadership. Her style  is collaborative\, strategic\, and directly tied to people and teams’ vision\, culture and goals.\nHer authentic and energetic facilitation style ignites passion\, and she creates an atmosphere of compassionate support that encourages vulnerability\, growth and learning. \nEarlier in her career\, Tres held leadership roles in the manufacturing for the apparel and home industries. Tres is also a wine-lover\, an avid outdoor adventurer on land and water and she leads a trail-running group for women. She visits her central-coast family almost every month of the year from her home in Oakland\, California.
