DESCRIPTION:The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden\, (SLOBG)\, presents Nature Nights\, an immersive outdoor holiday light and art exhibit. Nature Nights\, produced by SLOBG Director of Communication & Events\, Tracy Strann\, renowned for producing Bruce Munro: Field of Light at Sensorio in Paso Robles\, CA.\, assures another memorable immersive event for the entire family. The event will feature large format light projections by Bryn Forbes\, illuminated sculptures by Michael Reddell\, and artistic lighting of garden areas by Kody Cava throughout the eight-acre portion of the 150-acre Garden. Additionally\, there will be a variety of culinary delights\, regional wine\, and beer available for enjoyment. \n\nDATES: Friday\, November 11\, 2022 – Sunday\, January 8\, 2023 Thursday – Sunday Evenings (4 nights per week / 9 weeks) 5:00PM – 8:00PM \n\nTICKETS: (3) timed ticket options: 5PM\, 6PM & 7PM ADULTS: $19.75 + fees \, CHILDREN (12 & under): $14.75 + fees\, TODDLERS (2 & under): FREE *Members receive $2.00 discount per ticket

SUMMARY:SLO Folks Presents: Jake Blount Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Jake Blount is an award-win­ning musi­cian and schol­ar based in Prov­i­dence\, RI. He is half of the inter­na­tion­al­ly tour­ing duo Tui\, a 2020 recip­i­ent of the Steve Mar­tin Ban­jo Prize\, and a two-time win­ner of the Appalachi­an String Band Music Fes­ti­val (bet­ter known as Clifftop). Blount\, a spe­cial­ist in the ear­ly folk music of Black Amer­i­cans\, is a skilled per­former of spir­i­tu­als\, blues and string band reper­toire. Blount has per­formed at the Kennedy Cen­ter\, the New­port Folk Fes­ti­val\, and numer­ous oth­er venues across and beyond the Unit­ed States. He has pre­sent­ed his schol­ar­ly work at muse­ums and uni­ver­si­ties includ­ing the Smith­son­ian Insti­tu­tion\, Berklee Col­lege of Music and Yale Uni­ver­si­ty. His writ­ing has appeared in Paste Mag­a­zine\, No Depres­sion\, and NPR\, and he has been a guest on Radi­o­lab and Sound­check. His first solo album\, Spi­der Tales\, debuted at #2 on the Bill­board Blue­grass Chart\, received pos­i­tive cov­er­age from NPR\, Rolling Stone and Bill­board among oth­ers\, and earned five out of five stars as The Guardian’s Folk Album of the Month. Spi­der Tales lat­er appeared on ​“Best of 2020” lists from NPR\, Band­camp\, The New York­er\, the Guardian\, and elsewhere.

DESCRIPTION:Cal Poly’s Fall Jazz Concert on Nov. 18 to Include the Release of Two Singles \nSAN LUIS OBISPO — The Cal Poly Jazz program will present its Fall Jazz Concert season opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday\, Nov. 18\, in Spanos Theatre. \nCal Poly’s Jazz Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform music by jazz legends including Duke Ellington\, Billy Strayhorn\, Count Basie\, Pat Metheny and Wayne Shorter. \nThe concert will also celebrate the release of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble’s two new singles: “Sunlight\,” by Esperanza Spalding\, which was arranged by Director of Jazz Studies Arthur White; and “Let the Good Times Roll” by Fleecie Moore and Sam Theard\, arranged by Jeremy Fox. For the recordings\, “Sunlight” features music major Danna Dumandan on lead vocals and Grammy Award-winning Gregg Bissonette on drums. “Let the Good Times Roll” features Bissonette\, plus Kim Nazarian and Darmon Meader of the New York Voices. White plays multiple instruments on both tracks. \nBoth singles will be available for free download the day of the concert. The full-length album\, “if you look in\,” will be released later in the quarter. DownBeat magazine recently gave the Vocal Jazz Ensemble its “Undergraduate College Outstanding Performance” award in the Asynchronous Large Vocal Jazz Ensemble category. \nTickets to the recital are $20 general and $10 students. Tickets can be purchased from the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To order by phone\, call 805-SLO-4TIX (805-756-4849). Event parking is sponsored by the PAC.
