SUMMARY:SLO Museum of Art Presents: Home/Work
DESCRIPTION:Home/Work presents the work of fourteen contemporary artists whose work together questions our collective experiences of home. The works gathered in this exhibition reflect on the unique and intimate experiences of the artists who made them — and invite us to consider how we achieve balance in our busy lives of making home and making work. Not designed to be exhaustive\, this show invites the public to consider their own experiences\, reflecting on the overlap of home and work\, and all that is in between. Including new works by emerging artists\, and recontextualized works by world-renowned leading feminist artists\, this exhibition asks the timely question: what does home mean to you? \nParticipating artists include: Brandy Eve Allen\, Zalika Azim\, Kate Barbee\, Phoebe Boswell\, Andrea Bowers\, Allana Clarke\, Geoffrey Chadsey\, Judy Chicago\, Mary Kelly\, Emmett Moore\, Sophia Narrett\, Woody de Othello\, Greg Scott\, and Chiffon Thomas.

SUMMARY:New Exhibition At SLOMA: Dirty Laundry
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nDetails\nThe average American throws away 70 pounds of clothing every year. This constant demand for clothing has given way to the expansion of the “Fast Fashion” industry\, a manufacturing model in which clothes are designed\, fabricated\, and sold quickly to keep up with the ever-changing trends. This industry consumes one tenth of all water used industrially and approximately 20% of the wastewater created worldwide is attributed to the process of mass-producing cheap clothes. The detriments of fast fashion extend far past the degradation of the environment and to racial and gender inequality as the industry exports its production overseas to factories that employ a disproportionate number of women whom they pay meager wages. \nWhere did the problem originate? What are the consequences? Where do we go from here? These are the questions the California-based artists included in this exhibition explore through site-specific installation\, sculpture\, and print media. This exhibition not only seeks to enlighten audiences about the impacts of textile consumption\, but to offer solutions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis exhibition is supported in part by the California Arts Council\, a state agency. SUMMARY:SLO Museum of Art Presents: The Layered Vision of Nixson Borah
DESCRIPTION:New Exhibition at the SLO Museum of Art: \nCritical Encounters: The Layered Vision of Nixson Borah \nBeginning with monoprints and photography from the 1980s\, this exhibition follows the lineage of Nixson Borah’s practice towards his recent digital composites. Influenced by the tradition of shadow-puppet theater from southeast Asia\, contemporary dance\, printmaking\, and layering processes\, Borah’s digital composites are a culmination of decades of exploration\, curiosity\, and imagination.

SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Good Morning SLO - January 2023
DESCRIPTION:Your community newspaper brought to life.\n\nGood Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas\, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders\, business owners\, nonprofit executives and staffers together\, and enables us to reconnect\, engage and learn from each other.\n\nOur goal is to provide insight into business\, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.\n\nGood Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.\n\nLEADER OF THE PACK\n\nThe new year brings a new leader of the SLO Chamber Board of Directors. Fresh off her first speech at the Annual Dinner\, Liz Summer will be coming to Good Morning SLO in order to share the agenda and policy priorities she sees for the chamber in 2023.\n\n\n\nWINTER IS FOR THE BIRDS\n\nEach January\, birdwatchers and enthusiasts flock to Morro Bay in hopes of seeing as many as 200 species of wintering birds. Event co-organizer\, Bob Revel\, will recap the first festival back in three years\, its environmental and conservation importance\, and share why Morro Bay is one of the most prolific stopovers for wintering birds in the state.\n\n\n\nA WINDFALL FOR SHELTER\n\nHomeless services providers navigate incredibly complex networks of funding to provide shelter\, sustenance and support to our unhoused neighbors. CAPSLO’s Loren Leidinger will share the story behind the $5 million Bezos Day 1 Families Fund grant they received and how it impacts their work.\n\n \n\n\n\nTHE WORK BEGINS\n\nLast year\, Emily Francis launched her campaign for SLO City Council. After a long few months of walking\, biking and talking with our community\, she won her seat. As the newest member of the council\, we asked her to join us and talk about the issues and priorities she sees for our city.\n\n\n\nTHE CURRENT STATE OF RECYCLING\n\nCentral Coast waste collectors have resumed accepting #5 and #7 plastics and are recycling unprecedented amounts of organic waste. Integrated Waste Management Authority Executive Director\, Peter Cron\, will join us to address the plastic elephant in the room and celebrate progress in waste management.\n\n\n\nFINDING THE HELPERS\n\nAs the water recedes and the skies clear\, many across SLO County are able to fully assess the damage the recent storms left in their wake. Coalition builder and community advocate Quinn Brady will join us to share how one community came together to support their neighbors during their greatest time of need.\n\n\n\nSLO REP’S RING OF FIRE\n\nWe’ll finish off the morning with a foot-stompin’\, crowd-pleasin’ salute to a unique musical legend! Cast members from SLO REP’s latest production will join us this month to share a song or two from “Ring of Fire – The Music of Johnny Cash” opening February 10 in downtown San Luis Obispo.\n\n \n\n\n\nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor:\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you to our 2023 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:\n       \n\n \n\n    \n\n            \n\n    \n\n \n\n \n\n
