SUMMARY:SLO Museum of Art Presents: And Also... By Charlie Rugg
DESCRIPTION:The SLO Museum of Art is will be featuring the exhibit And Also… by Charlie Rugg from March 3rd until May 29th. \nCharlie Rugg is an abstract and portrait oil painter based in San Luis Obispo\, California. Rugg’s work converges on exploring the collective nature of elements that make up human experience\, and how they may be used to create a moment of perspective removed from the self. Rugg’s And Also… exhibition highlights our instinct to construct and define existence around story and the shape of the emergent narrative that comes to life when our stories are viewed as one. \nSLOMA is open from 11 AM until 5 PM every day of the week except for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:Woods Humane Society Presents: Spring Shelter Break
DESCRIPTION:Adoption Fees Reduced to $50 from March 18 through April 2 to Make Space for Incoming Animals \nAs many prepare for spring break vacations\, Woods Humane Society is preparing for a flood of spring kittens and puppies in need of shelter by hosting a Spring Shelter Break adoption promotion from March 18th through April 2nd\, 2023. All adoption fees will be reduced to $50 (plus license fees for dogs and puppies) to encourage adoptions and help make space for the hundreds of animals it expects to take in over the coming months. \n“As temperatures warm\, unaltered dogs and cats begin reproducing\, which results in a deluge of young animals in need of food\, shelter and medical care\,” explains Woods Interim CEO Emily L’Heureux. “From April through December\, we will take in around 800 kittens or more\, many of whom are newly born\, sick and in need of round-the-clock care.” \nIn anticipation of the annual rise in baby animals that stretches the shelter’s capacity to the max\, L’Heureux hopes the Spring Shelter Break adoption promotion will help clear space and find loving homes for the animals currently available for adoption. \n“Typically\, when the busy travel and vacation season begins\, we see adoptions slow down overall. By significantly reducing fees for two weeks\, we aim to boost awareness and interest\, while also removing some of the initial financial barriers to adopting.” \nL’Heureux also notes that spring is a great time for locals to consider adopting\, as warmer and longer days invite outdoor excursions with a dog. “A four-legged friend makes a perfect companion for spring break and beyond!” \nThe Spring Shelter Break promotion begins March 18th and runs through April 2nd\, 2023. All animals have been spayed/neutered\, vaccinated\, microchipped\, licensed\, and treated for parasites. Adoptions also include a voluntary 30 days of pet insurance and a free wellness exam at a local vet clinic. \nWoods Humane Society is located at 875 Oklahoma Ave.\, San Luis Obispo\, CA\, 93405\, and at 2300 Ramona Rd.\, Atascadero\, CA\, 93422\, and is open to the public daily from 12-5 p.m.\, with adoption hours from 12-4 p.m. For more information about Woods\, visit www.WoodsHumane.org or call (805) 543-9316.

SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Good Morning SLO - March 2023
DESCRIPTION:Your community newspaper brought to life. \nGood Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas\, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders\, business owners\, nonprofit executives and staffers together\, and enables us to reconnect\, engage and learn from each other. \nOur goal is to provide insight into business\, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives. \nGood Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. \n\nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nPESTICIDE-FREE PEST CONTROL \nWith 320 million dollars in annual revenue\, strawberries lead the charge as SLO County’s top crop. The amount of pesticide and fertilizer needed to hit that target\, however\, remain a concern. TRIC Robotics founder Adam Stager aims to change that and will share about how he’s capitalizing on USDA research he was exposed to while in school on the East Coast. \n\nTHE LONG WINTER \nThis has been an eventful winter\, with cold temperatures and damaging storms. While power may have gone out\, natural gas has been reliable. That consistency came at a price in our natural gas bills. Tim Mahoney\, from the Southern California Gas Company\, will come to share why we saw that price change and how the weather impacted their infrastructure. \n\nFOUR THE PEOPLE \nFresh out of his seat on the Arroyo Grande City Council and a few months into his new role\, Jimmy Paulding is the newest addition to our County Board of Supervisors. He will join us to share about his major priorities for District Four\, how his time with the City prepared him to be a County leader and his hopes for the future. \n\nCREATIVITY\, CRITICAL THINKING & KINDERGARTEN \nWhen Central Coast schools ask industry leaders what they want in a future workforce\, the answer is always creative problem solving and people ready to overcome unforeseen challenges. Christine Robertson will bring us up to speed on how SLO Coastal Education Foundation is working alongside districts to empower students to succeed in tomorrow’s world. \n\n \nSOARING BREASTFEEDING RATES \nAll SLO County hospitals have earned Baby Friendly Designations\, and local breastfeeding rates are 15% above the state average. The Central Coast Breastfeeding Coalition’s Leslie Mehigan will join us to explain the designation\, rates\, trends and what they mean for our healthcare system. \n\nCOMMUNICATING THE AI WAY \nChat GPT has been all the rage the past few weeks. While the free AI writing program is impressive and helpful\, it can feel threatening. We’ve invited Dr. Jason Peters\, Cal Poly English professor\, to share more about how the tool can be used as an asset in many industries and why you don’t need to worry about it taking over your job. \n\nSLO MASTER CHORALE \nThe morning will end on a fun note with SLO Master Chorale! They will join us to serenade us ahead of their upcoming performance of The Theatrical Mendelssohn Elijah on April 23 at the SLO Performing Arts Center. \n\nThank you to our 2023 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:\n        \n  \n     \n             \n     \n

SUMMARY:SLO Botanical Garden Presents: Bird and Botany Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Garden is excited to present a monthly bird walk series which explores the intersection of birds and botany. Many plant lovers and many bird watchers enjoy their passions without much regard to how these two realms interact. Yet the links between birds and flora are critical to each\, from pollination to seed distribution to nesting and shelter. This walk\, led by Mark Mushkat and Ken Levine\, studies birdlife amongst the plants of the botanical garden. The focus will be on which avian species are drawn to certain plants\, what’s gained or lost in the exchange\, and how this understanding can shape your own landscaping efforts to the benefit of fauna and flora. Allowing for a two-hour exploration\, on mostly flat terrain\, we expect to see and hear a wide variety of avian species as they feed\, hide\, nest\, and defend territory in the garden’s lush habitat. \nTickets are $10 for SLOBG members\, $20 for the general public\, free for children and include admission to the Garden. Tickets are available online at the link below\, or in-person at the Gift Shop. Walks are open to all ages and children must be accompanied by an adult. Group size is limited to 12. Ticket sales will end at 4 pm the day before each walk. All guests must pre-register. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you! Please bring binoculars (if you have them)\, comfortable shoes\, and water. Meet at the main entrance in front of the Gift Shop to sign in. \nFor more information about this walk or other SLOBG programs\, email Millie\, millie@slobg.org\, or call (805) 541 -1400 ext. 302.
