SUMMARY:Good Morning SLO | January
DESCRIPTION:A dynamic and informative 90-minute breakfast program specifically geared to San Luis Obispo business people. Held on the fourth Thursday of each month\, local experts focus on a wide variety of community and business topics. \nDeadline to register is 5 p.m. Jan. 23\, unless the event sells out prior to that. \nTo purchase your 2018 Annual Good Morning SLO Season Pass\, click here. \nThis month’s Lead Sponsor:\n \nThis month’s topics include: \nTHE ACCIDENTAL ACTIVIST: FROM A MOMENT TO A MOVEMENT\nDawn Addis wanted to do something after last year’s presidential election. But she didn’t expect about 7\,000 people to join her and a small group of friends in what became Women’s March SLO\, nor to continue on afterward\, expanding their goals and reach. We invited Addis to share her story of going from community member to community organizer and activist. \n  \nSLO SCHOOLS PREPARE FOR FUTURE            \nWhen word came down that Diablo Canyon was looking to close\, the San Luis Coastal school district had the foresight to start planning ahead. Now that it’s official\, Superintendent Eric Prater will call the class to order and give us the ABC’s on what’s ahead for local schools and how the district will approach future budget planning. \n  \nTHIS FLU’S OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST\nFlu season hit hard this year. More people are getting more severe cases. Emergency rooms and doctors’ offices have been overrun. Medications have run out. SLO County Public Health Director Penny Borenstein will address why it’s been a particularly bad year and how health officials are responding\, along with reminders of what you should do if you get sick and how to avoid it in the first place. \n  \nTHE YEAR AHEAD FOR THE SLO CHAMBER\nThere’s some important work ahead for the SLO Chamber this year – finalizing our economic vision and continuing to prepare for a future without Diablo Canyon\, to name just a couple. We’ll hear from new Chamber Board Chair Geri LaChance as she lays out her vision for the work ahead. \n  \nWE’RE BLUBBERING WITH JEALOUSY \nEnviably\, Cal Poly grad student Emma Weitzner recently spent 10 weeks cuddling – uh\, that is studying – baby seals. Less enviably\, she did it in the frigid\, challenging conditions of Antarctica\, where everything is more difficult and things rarely go as planned. We invited Weitzner to share highlights of her experience. \n  \nWHEN THE ‘STANGS COME MARCHING IN\nNo question that the hundred-year-old Cal Poly Mustang Band is beloved at home. But the band impresses audiences on the road as well\, winning top honors at San Francisco’s famous Chinese New Year’s parade several years in a row. We invited a corps of brass\, woodwind and percussion players from the 220-member band to remind us why they’re a fan favorite wherever they go. \n  \n\n\n\n\nThank you to our Annual Sponsors:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n Thank you to our 2018 caterer:
