SUMMARY:12 PM | Think Differently - Virtual Event Playbook
DESCRIPTION:Have you wondered if your organization should pivot your once in-person events and gatherings to a digital space? SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Virtual Good Morning SLO - March 2021
DESCRIPTION:View this month’s GMSLO Flyers HERE \n\nGrab breakfast and coffee and join us for this month’s Good Morning SLO program. To preserve some community connection in this time of being apart\, you’ll have the chance to interact with speakers by asking your most pressing questions. Zoom invite will be sent upon registration. \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nMarch topics include:\n \nLESSONS FROM THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM\nIt’s been a year since students emptied their lockers and teachers moved their classrooms online. As in-person instruction begins again across our County\, kindergartner teacher\, Melena Smirl will share a look back at what this experience has been like from a teacher’s perspective and lessons she’s learned from the virtual classroom \n\nDAVID SLEW GOLIATH… OR DID HE?\nOne of the biggest news stories this year was of the unknown little investors stock-blocking the big hedge funds from shorting GameStop. While it made a good headline\, it certainly didn’t tell us the whole story. We invited finance professor Dr. Ziemowit Bednarek\, to breakdown the impacts of this stock market disruption.\n \n\nWHY PUBLIC ART MATTERS\nThrough uncertain times\, art acts as a visual beacon of hope and positivity. Owner of Badger Branding\, Katy McGrath has seen that firsthand through her work on the City of SLO’s award winning banner series. Katy will share how public art can not only contribute to a community’s identity\, but foster a sense of belonging and enhance the quality of life for locals and visitors. \n\nCOUNTERING COVID’S EFFECTS ON WOMEN AT WORK\nThe pandemic is having a devastating impact on women\, and the fallout has shown how deeply gender inequality remains embedded in our political\, social and economic systems. Public policy consultant and women’s & gender studies lecturer Christina Leferve Latner\, will share how community and business leaders can work to lessen these impacts and keep more women in the workforce. \n\nWINE FAMILY HISTORY\nIn the mid-1800s\, fortune seekers from around the world flocked to California\, but not all of them ended up in the gold fields. Many\, like the Dusi family\, settled in SLO County\, drawn by the Mediterranean climate perfect for planting a familiar crop: grapevines. Farmer and winemaker Janell Dusi will share her family’s story and how she has continued and grown that legacy. \n\nA NATURAL NEXT STEP\nRoxi Buchanan had worked at the same business for nearly fourteen years until the pandemic hit. Not one for down time\, she explored other ventures until the stars aligned and the opportunity arose to open her own pop-up shop at the Pismo Outlets. Roxi will share how her one-woman side job led her to owning her own business and a hub for local artisans. \n\nThank you to our 2021 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:

SUMMARY:12 PM | Working Lunch with Libbie Agran
DESCRIPTION:Grab lunch from your favorite local restaurant (or your kitchen) and join us on Fridays from 12 – 12:30 PM on Facebook LIVE for a stimulating conversation with Wine History Project of San Luis Obispo Executive Director\, Libbie Agran and SLO Chamber President/CEO\, Jim Dantona. \nAbout this week’s guest: Soon after graduating from UCLA\, southern California native\, Libbie Agran began her career as a systems engineer for IBM. While gaining experience in portfolio management\, she was shocked to learn that these institutions only served the wealthy and not the middle class. Enlightened by this insight\, Agran started her own business a few years later which focused on designing strategies for single and married people to help them save\, invest and accumulate wealth. \nArgan has helped and assisted not only individuals and families throughout her career\, but nonprofits and community organizations as well through creating strong missions and boards\, raising funds\, and establishing endowment funds for long term financial stability. Her current focuses include the welfare of all children living in the county\, the Morro Coast Audubon\, the Land Conservancy and the environment\, including organic farming and food security. \nIn 2015 Libbie Agran established the Wine History Project to study the land\, microclimates\, grape varietals\, growers and winemakers who have shaped the wine history of San Luis Obispo County and continues to serve the organization today in her role as Executive Director.
