SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Virtual Good Morning SLO - July 2021
DESCRIPTION:Grab breakfast and coffee and join us for this month’s Good Morning SLO program. To preserve some community connection in this time of being apart\, you’ll have the chance to interact with speakers by asking your most pressing questions. Zoom invite will be sent upon registration. \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nRISING STRONGER TOGETHER \n \nIt was announced earlier this month that two great organizations dedicated to combating sexual assault and intimate partner violence\, RISE and Stand Strong\, would be joining forces under the new banner Lumina Alliance. We invited CEO\, Jennifer Adams\, to discuss the mission and vision for the new organization. \n\nMORRO BAY TAKES CHARGE \n \nIn early June\, the city of Morro Bay reached a tentative agreement that would pave the way for the world’s largest battery storage facility. Morro Bay City Manager Scott Collins will discuss the value that battery storage can bring to our grid and to the Central Coast region in particular. \n\nCONNECTING COMMUNITIES TO CARE \n \nAcross the country\, COVID-19 showed us the long way to go to health equity\, highlighting unequal access among racial and ethnic minorities. Promotores Collaborative of San Luis Obispo’s\, Director of Programs\, Erica Ruvalcaba-Heredia\, will offer insight into their work during the pandemic ensuring our Hispanic community has access to vital resources and services. \n\nCAMPING REIMAGINED \n \nWith campsite reservations booked six months out and cancellations being traded in private Facebook groups\, it’s clear that campsite supply simply hasn’t kept up with demand. Out of the struggle emerged Hipcamp\, another app based peer-to-peer disruptor in the tourism industry. Buddy Campo\, small business owner and Cambria Hipcamp host will share his experience and opine on the future of camping. \n\nREPRESENTING THE CENTRAL COAST \n \nSanta Barbara City Councilmember Meagan Harmon was recently appointed to represent the South Central Coast district on the California Coastal Commission. The state-run body will have many votes in the coming years that could shape the Central Coast for generations. Councilmember Harmon will join us to introduce herself and share more about the commission. \n\nREDRAWING THE LINES \n \nEvery ten years\, census data is used to update and redraw state and local political boundaries. Julie Rodewald\, Voter Services Director for the League of Women Voters and former SLO County Clerk Recorder\, will share background on the process and how you can get involved. \n\nThank you to our 2021 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:
