SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Hybrid Good Morning SLO - August 2021
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to bring you a hybrid program this month with both in-person and virtual options! If you would like to attend in-person\, register soon as we are allowing 50% capacity on a first-come\, first-served basis. We will only have coffee and tea available and ask that all attendees remain masked when not drinking. \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nCALSAVERS COMPLIANCE \nCalifornia now requires employers with five or more employees to register for CalSavers if they do not offer a retirement plan. The sign-up deadline of June 30\, 2022 is approaching quickly\, so we asked retirement plan specialist\, Stephanie Kemp\, to share what both employers and employees need to know to be compliant. \n\nTHE DELTA IMPACT \n \nAs a result of COVID’s delta variant\, a powerful sense of uncertainty is once again a normal aspect of everyday life. Dr. Penny Borenstein will join us to provide an update on the latest on the virus and how San Luis Obispo County will once again navigate the challenge of managing risk while protecting the health and safety of our community. \n\nFARM FACTS \n \nStrawberries are up\, wine grapes are down\, but there’s more to the story on this year’s SLO County Crop Report. SLO County Farm Bureau Executive Director\, Brent Burchett\, will go behind the numbers to share what’s driving production of SLO County’s top agricultural commodities. \n\nWHAT’S TO A CONSERVATORSHIP? \n \nThe #FreeBritney movement has made conservatorship a buzzword these days\, but many people won’t ever have it show up in their real lives. As a lawyer\, Michael Pick deals with it every day and on every side\, and he will join us to help clear up some common misconceptions\, share how and when it comes into play\, and offer insight into conservatorships here in SLO County. \n\nREGENERATIVE OCEAN FARMING \n \nSeaweed has always been a lackluster name for some of the crops found in the ocean including Nori\, Kombu and Wakame. As more of these ingredients are being used in kitchens\, there is also an opportunity to learn about their essential role in our ecosystem. Kelpful co-founder Jules Marsh will join us to share her passion for restoring ocean life through aquaculture and how we can help. \n\nTOTALLY CLOSE RECALL \n \nOn September 14\, California voters will face two questions: Should Governor Gavin Newson be removed from office? And if so\, which of his 46 challengers should replace him? Deputy Director Clerk-Recorder\, Helen Nolan\, will share what voters need to know about the forthcoming gubernatorial election and offer some perspective on the history of recalls. \n\nThank you to our 2021 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:
