SUMMARY:State of the State
DESCRIPTION:A lot of big legislative moves came of Sacramento with 2022’s budget surplus. Experts are predicting a complete financial flip in 2023\, with a return to budget deficits. How will that impact the legislative outlook? How does an even larger Democratic Supermajority impact pending legislation? California’s lawmaking landscape is going to be more interesting than ever this year.\n\n\nWe have invited experts on policy\, housing and energy to reflect on 2022\, brief us on major policy changes that could be implemented in 2023\, and to share the story of the politics around policy at the state level.\n\n\n\n\nFEATURING\n\n\nBen Golombek\, CalChamber Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff for Policy\, heads CalChamber policy staff and provides strategic oversight and management of CalChamber’s legislative and regulatory priorities. He previously served as chief of staff to members of the California State Assembly and worked at Los Angeles City Hall in various roles.\n\n\nJennifer Svec is the Legislative Advocate Manager at the California Association of Realtors. With almost 20 years of experience in legislative advocacy\, Jennifer has strengths in analyzing\, researching and developing policies and expertise in housing affordability\, supply issues\, the legislative process and trade association operations. \n\n\n\nMODERATED BY \n\n\nGenelle Padilla co-anchors KSBY News Daybreak every morning. She attended the University of Southern California and graduated from the Annenberg School of Communication and has an extensive record of multimedia journalism and production work\, both locally and nationally.\n\n\n\nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS\n\n \n\n   \n\n \n\n\n

SUMMARY:January Membership Mixer | Benny's Pizza Palace & Social Club
DESCRIPTION:Every month SLO Chamber members gather after hours to catch up\, meet new members\, do a bit of networking and get an inside glance at a local business. \nMembership Mixers happen on the third Wednesday of every month and provide an opportunity for members to get to know each other and share business contacts all in the friendly confines of a member business. \nA benefit to all Chamber members\, these networking events provide the opportunity for the host to showcase their digs\, show off what they do and maybe even boast a little about the services they offer. \nAll members are welcome to invite a non-member as a one-time guest. The guest will be contacted at a later date about the benefits of a membership. \nThis month’s mixer is hosted by Benny’s Pizza Palace & Social Club\, with beverage partners Central Coast Brewing and Wine Sneak.

SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Good Morning SLO - January 2023
DESCRIPTION:Your community newspaper brought to life.\n\nGood Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas\, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders\, business owners\, nonprofit executives and staffers together\, and enables us to reconnect\, engage and learn from each other.\n\nOur goal is to provide insight into business\, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.\n\nGood Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.\n\nLEADER OF THE PACK\n\nThe new year brings a new leader of the SLO Chamber Board of Directors. Fresh off her first speech at the Annual Dinner\, Liz Summer will be coming to Good Morning SLO in order to share the agenda and policy priorities she sees for the chamber in 2023.\n\n\n\nWINTER IS FOR THE BIRDS\n\nEach January\, birdwatchers and enthusiasts flock to Morro Bay in hopes of seeing as many as 200 species of wintering birds. Event co-organizer\, Bob Revel\, will recap the first festival back in three years\, its environmental and conservation importance\, and share why Morro Bay is one of the most prolific stopovers for wintering birds in the state.\n\n\n\nA WINDFALL FOR SHELTER\n\nHomeless services providers navigate incredibly complex networks of funding to provide shelter\, sustenance and support to our unhoused neighbors. CAPSLO’s Loren Leidinger will share the story behind the $5 million Bezos Day 1 Families Fund grant they received and how it impacts their work.\n\n \n\n\n\nTHE WORK BEGINS\n\nLast year\, Emily Francis launched her campaign for SLO City Council. After a long few months of walking\, biking and talking with our community\, she won her seat. As the newest member of the council\, we asked her to join us and talk about the issues and priorities she sees for our city.\n\n\n\nTHE CURRENT STATE OF RECYCLING\n\nCentral Coast waste collectors have resumed accepting #5 and #7 plastics and are recycling unprecedented amounts of organic waste. Integrated Waste Management Authority Executive Director\, Peter Cron\, will join us to address the plastic elephant in the room and celebrate progress in waste management.\n\n\n\nFINDING THE HELPERS\n\nAs the water recedes and the skies clear\, many across SLO County are able to fully assess the damage the recent storms left in their wake. Coalition builder and community advocate Quinn Brady will join us to share how one community came together to support their neighbors during their greatest time of need.\n\n\n\nSLO REP’S RING OF FIRE\n\nWe’ll finish off the morning with a foot-stompin’\, crowd-pleasin’ salute to a unique musical legend! Cast members from SLO REP’s latest production will join us this month to share a song or two from “Ring of Fire – The Music of Johnny Cash” opening February 10 in downtown San Luis Obispo.\n\n \n\n\n\nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor:\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you to our 2023 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:\n       \n\n \n\n    \n\n            \n\n    \n\n \n\n \n\n
