No need to ask Alexa. Spencer Voorheis – a senior software engineer for Amazon in SLO – will share how the company wound up here and what kind of work they’re doing locally.\nLAND OF MANY USES | DUNES IN THE NEWS\n \nThe Oceano Dunes are a jewel of the Central Coast\, beloved for beachcombing\, recreation and its unique ecosystem. Such diverse use in this dynamic environment creates challenges\, so we asked Dena Bellman\, who oversees the Dunes for California State Parks\, to address how they’re managing the vast area and reveal results from a new economic impact study. \nCONSTRUCTION AHEAD | AN UPDATE ON DOWNTOWN SLO\n \nAt moments of peak frustration\, it may seem like downtown SLO is one giant construction zone. We invited Rob Lewin\, former SLO County fire chief and Santa Barbara’s director of emergency management\, to share his unique perspective on what our community can learn about disaster preparedness from the Thomas Fire and ensuing mudslides. \n…AND A ROCKIN RESPONSE  \nFrom Concerts in the Plaza to sharing a stage with The Temptations\, Damon Castillo has rocked his way into local legend. He’s also one of the headlining acts at San Luis Obispo Responds\, a benefit concert for Santa Barbara County fire victims and Puerto Rico hurricane relief coming to the PAC Feb. 23. Castillo will get us in the groove for a jam-packed evening of local vocals.
