Keynote speaker Senator Scott Wiener will address policies on the horizon that could reform our state’s approach to housing creation and housing affordability. Following his presentation\, SLO County administrative officer Wade Horton will moderate a panel discussion where experts in water and transportation will join Senator Wiener to discuss topics including: \n\n\nLegislation on the horizon that could impact housing\n\n\nHow roads and water impact housing availability and price\n\n\nCreative solutions to infrastructure planning and funding challenges\n\n\nAttendees will walk away with a greater understanding of what housing could look like 20 years down the road\, challenges we may face and actionable steps we can take today to ensure that housing will be attainable into the future. \n\nKeynote | Senator Scott Wiener\nRepresenting San Francisco and northern San Mateo County\, Senator Wiener‘s leadership on the Senate Housing Committee includes introduction of SB 50\, which aims to create more dense housing near major transit lines. Endorsed by numerous mayors\, the bill will “spur more affordable housing near transit and job centers\,” according to San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo. \nRead about Wiener’s proposal. \n  \n \nPanelist | Newsha K. Ajami\, Stanford University\nAjami is the director of Urban Water Policy with Stanford University’s Water in the West and NSF-ReNUWIt initiatives. She is a hydrologist specializing in sustainable water resource management\, water policy and the water-energy-food nexus. Her research throughout the years has been interdisciplinary and impact driven\, focusing on the improvement of the science-policy-stakeholder interface by incorporating social and economic measures and relevant and effective communication. \nListen to Ajami discuss water conservation and the need for more housing. \n  \n \nPanelist | Carl Guardino\, Silicon Valley Leadership Group\nCarl Guardino is the President and CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group\, a public policy trade association that represents more than 375 of Silicon Valley’s most respected employers. He is also a three-term gubernatorial appointee on the California Transportation Commission. Known throughout the region as a consensus builder\, Guardino has championed a number of successful ballot measures\, especially in the areas of transportation and housing. \nListen to “Carl Guardino on Representing Silicon Valley in the Halls of Power.” \n  \nPanelist | Laura Bliss\, CityLab\nAs a staff writer at CityLab\, Laura Bliss helps to advance national conversation on the forces that shape urban land and life with an eye on transportation\, maps and technology.
