DESCRIPTION:The 2020 Housing Summit is back and in a virtual three-part series where we will explore policies\, practices and potential solutions to address our housing crisis. \n\nDemystifying the Missing Middle\nNew Solutions to Foundational Challenges | August 11\nBringing it Home | September 10\n\nOur first Housing Summit session will provide attendees an opportunity to dive into ‘missing middle’ housing as a response to state mandates and unattainable prices. Experts in housing research\, innovation\, state policy and fair housing will discuss actions we can take now to ensure a future of attainable housing. \nSpeakers will share insight and opine on: \n\nWhat ‘missing middle’ housing looks like\, and why it matters\nThe difference between density and crowding and how that impacts public health\nHow building more densely can foster a better quality of life\, increase racial equity\, and build community character\nThe state policy ecosystem we are planning\, building and buying in\nCommon myths and harmful fallacies that come up in housing conversations\nThe role of Accessory Dwelling Units and ‘Tiny Houses’\n\nFollowing the moderated conversation\, attendees will have the opportunity for Q&A. \n\nSpeakers: \nAs the Policy Director for the Terner Center\, David Garcia leads the center’s engagement in local\, state and federal housing policy and supports the generation of research-driven policy ideas\, proposals and papers. Prior to joining the Terner Center\, Garcia worked as the Chief Operating Officer for Ten Space\, where he managed various aspects of the real estate development process\, including development agreements\, environmental review and project design. Garcia has also worked as an advocate in the Central Valley\, serving on numerous boards and commissions related to a wide array of planning issues. \n\nTyrone Buckley is a Senior Policy Specialist in Housing Policy Development at the California Department of Housing and Community Development. Prior to joining HCD\, Buckley was Policy Director at Housing California\, and a legislative advocate for housing and land use policy at California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation. A Cal Poly alumnus\, he also has professional experience working to address environmental justice and homelessness. \n\nModerator: \nAs the Director of Urban Planning with the Central Oregon LandWatch\, Moey Newbold advocates for more complete neighborhoods with more affordable homes\, active transportation options\, thriving local businesses\, mixed-use developments\, and vibrant public spaces through programs. this work includes leading efforts such as the  Bend Central District Initiative which strives to prevent urban sprawl and increase housing in the City of Bend. She brings experience in planning\, advocacy and coalition building to her role as moderator. \n\nCalifornia Association of Realtors | Presenting Sponsor: \nJeanne Radsick is a 30-plus-year real estate veteran who has served at the local\, state\, and national levels of organized real estate. A C.A.R. director since 1996\, Radsick leverages experience in policy\, land use\, environmental and planning committees in her role as president where she represents more than 100 local member Associations and more than 170\,000 individuals.
