SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Hybrid Good Morning SLO - September 2021
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to continue offering a hybrid format for September’s program! If you would like to attend in-person at Grace Central Coast\, please reserve your spot as soon as possible\, as we are allowing 50% capacity on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nOther important things to note: \n\nAll in-person attendees attest to being fully vaccinated for COVID-19.\nMasks are required at all times indoors while not eating or drinking.\nDoors open at 7 a.m. and we will only have coffee and tea available\, no food. *Please bring a reusable mug if possible.\n\n  \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\n  \nMAKING A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE \nMany of us have felt helpless watching the Afghan refugee crisis from across the globe. For Leadership SLO alum\, Katie Weschler Ferber\, the opportunity to assist felt much closer. From the German military base where her and her husband are stationed\, Katie will join us to share how she sprang into action when learning of thousands of incoming evacuees to the base. \n\nSTORYTELLING AS ACTIVISM \nLast summer\, as our country grappled with racial injustice and struggled against the pandemic\, Juan Perez knew he had to be creative in finding a way to protest. The First Few Podcast was born to honor the voices and the paths of the first in their community to thrive regardless of the obstacles they faced. Juan will join us to share his story of The First Few. \n\nWHO ARE THEY/THEM? \nPublicly prescribed pronouns often make assumptions that collide at the intersection of a person’s private gender identity and their public persona. Olivia Tran\, Cal Poly’s Coordinator for Womxn and Gender Equity Initiatives\, will shed some light on this shifting paradigm as more people share their pronouns or choose ones that vary from historic norms. \n\nWHAT’S TO A CONSERVATORSHIP? \nThe #FreeBritney movement has made conservatorship a buzzword these days\, but many people won’t ever have it show up in their real lives. As a lawyer\, Michael Pick deals with it every day and on every side\, and he will join us to help clear up some common misconceptions\, share how and when it comes into play\, and offer insight into conservatorships here in SLO County. \n\nWHAT WE LOSE WITHOUT CHILD CARE \nA recent Cuesta College study explores the impact that child care\, or lack thereof\, has on SLO County’s economy. Josh Williams\, founder and president of BW Research will share the ways in which the lack of child care spaces slows our economic recovery\, and why this impact is particularly acute in San Luis Obispo. \n\nAT THE TOP OF HIS GAME \nMost athletes dream about being recognized as the best in their sport. That dream was no different for lifelong competitive cyclist Christopher Blevins\, except this summer he made his a reality. The recent Cal Poly graduate will join us to share his journey to Tokyo 2020 and subsequently winning a world championship just days later. \n  \n\n \nCENTRAL COAST FOLLIES GIVE US A WHOLE LOT OF NONSENSE \nThe Central Coast Follies will give us a sneak peak of their forthcoming show “A Whole Lot of Nonsense” — a comical romp from Broadway to London’s West End presented in a variety extravaganza. The show runs October 8-10 at Spanos Theatre. \n\n\nThank you to our 2021 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:
