SUMMARY:7:30 AM | Hybrid Good Morning SLO - February 2022
DESCRIPTION:Your community newspaper brought to life. \nGood Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas\, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders\, business owners\, nonprofit executives and staffers together\, and enables us to reconnect\, engage and learn from each other. \nOur goal is to provide insight into business\, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives. \nGood Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nAWARENESS INSPIRING ACTIVISM \nIn confronting local history of racially discriminatory housing policies\, R.A.C.E. Matter’s short film Restrictions Apply established a path to help our community talk about race. Founder Courtney Haile will share how the organization’s newly released toolkit can help viewers learn the true point of the film – becoming aware of systemic racism and finding their role in creating a more inclusive future for everyone. \n\nBUDGETING BETTER \nIn the City of SLO\, conservative forecasting\, the passage of Measure G-20\, and additional federal support have provided an opportunity to make unprecedented investments to further Major City Goals and support the community. City Manager Derek Johnson will join us to share a snapshot of the City’s mid-year budget and what it means for residents and businesses. \n\nIN SERVICE TO OTHERS \nThis past summer\, as the US ended its 20-year mission in Afghanistan\, we watched the unforgettable scenes as hundreds of thousands were forced to flee their homeland. SLO County Veterans Service Officer and Afghanistan War veteran Morgan Boyd will join us to share more about those that were able to escape\, those left behind\, and what we can do to help. \n\nSLO’S NEWEST PUBLIC ART \nIt’s a new year and the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art is getting a new paint job. Building on the success of the building’s first ever outdoor mural\, the SLOMA team has commissioned another emerging artist to cover all four sides of the museum. Chief Curator for SLOMA Emma Saperstein will share more about this new public facing art project and plans for the future. \n\nREADY TO SOAR \nMost people know Rick Stollmeyer for starting the now international business Mindbody in his garage. Not one to let moss grow under his feet\, he is back with a brand new company and team\, Inspired Flight\, that looks to fill an important gap in the world’s heavy-lift drone sector. How high can this drone soar? \n\nFROM THE HORN OF AFRICA TO SLO \nThe Central Coast now has its first Ethiopian eatery\, a labor of love led by sisters and chefs Helen Abraha and Martha Taezaz. Feben Teffera\, a silent partner in the business will join us to share the unique story behind Ebony’s beginnings in SLO\, how the pop-up restaurant has taken hold in the community\, and plans for growing into the future. \n\nThank you to our 2022 Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors:
