SUMMARY:June Good Morning SLO
DESCRIPTION:Your community newspaper brought to life. \nGood Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas\, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders\, business owners\, nonprofit executives and staffers together\, and enables us to reconnect\, engage and learn from each other. \nOur goal is to provide insight into business\, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives. \nGood Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. \n\nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n \n\nREMEMBER TO LOOK DOWN \nAs we walk around downtown San Luis Obispo\, it’s easy to miss details above and below our line of sight. The City of SLO just changed their manhole covers and they are amazing works of metal art. Pierre Rademaker will join us to talk about his collaboration with the city to make these new manhole covers. \n\nIT’S FAIR TIME \nThe weather is warming up\, which means the California Mid-State Fair is almost here. There are so many great activities and events coming again this year\, and we are excited to have Colleen Bojorquez\, the fair’s Chief Executive Officer\, joining us at Good Morning SLO to talk about all this year’s happenings. \n\nFOSTERING HEALTHY YOUTH \nBig Brothers Big Sisters of SLO County partners with parents\, guardians\, volunteers and others in the community to ensure each child in their programs achieves higher aspirations\, greater confidence and better relationships. Stacy Salame was recently announced as the new Executive Director and will join us to share more about the future of the organization. \n\nA CHANGE FOR THE PRIDE & DIVERSITY CENTER \nThe incomparable Dusty Colyer-Worth has led the GALA Pride and Diversity Center for the last two years. He recently announced that he will be stepping down to pursue new challenges outside of SLO\, so we asked him to join us onstage to discuss the transition and recap the great work GALA has done under his leadership. \n\nTOURISM IN SLO CAL \nVisit SLO CAL is doing big work at national and international levels to continue to make our county a destination for travelers worldwide. We’ve invited Cathy Cartier\, SLO CAL’s Interim President & CEO\, to the Good Morning SLO stage to share more about the state of local tourism heading into the summer season. \n\nDIGGING UP LOCAL HISTORY \nThe “Pecho Coast”\, or the land held today by the Diablo Canyon Power Plant\, was home to a Japanese-American farmstead from 1928 to 1942. Over Memorial Day Weekend\, an excavation took place and more than 40 descendants of the couple who lived at the site were present. Terry Jones\, Cal Poly Professor of Anthropology\, will join us to share more about this impactful project. \n\nFESTIVAL MOZAIC \nFestival Mozaic returns to San Luis Obispo this summer and will feature more than 50 world-class artists performing 22 events in 10 days. We will close out the morning with a performance from The Shanks String Quartet to get us excited for the upcoming festival. \n\nThank you to all the Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors for 2024: \n  \n               \n  \n        \n  \n           \n  \n        \n  \n
