SUMMARY:October Good Morning SLO
DESCRIPTION:Your community newspaper brought to life. \nGood Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas\, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders\, business owners\, nonprofit executives and staffers together\, and enables us to reconnect\, engage and learn from each other. \nOur goal is to provide insight into business\, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives. \nGood Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. \nFEATURING \nBRICK BY COLORFUL BRICK \nMost lego sets are dreamed up by the brand’s team\, but every so often\, a fan creation is selected to be produced and sold. Alex Sahli\, a Cal Poly student and lego aficionado\, will join us to talk about the Italian Riviera Lego set that he designed and is now being sold by Lego\, complete with Alex’s name and photo in the instructions. \n\nQUALITY WATER \nIt’s easy to take easy access to clean water for granted\, but boil water notices and high bacteria numbers are a reminder that there’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure our water is safe. Ryan Lodge\, Executive Officer for the Central Coast Water Board\, will join us onstage to share more about what the Water Board does. \n\nWHAT’S THE DEAL WITH PROP 50? \nWe’re doing something different this month and hosting two speakers in a debate-style format ahead of the November 4 Statewide Special Election to give perspectives in favor of and against Proposition 50. \nTom Fulks will speak in favor of Proposition 50. Tom is a political commentator\, Chair of the San Luis Obispo County Democratic Party\, writer and strategic political consultant for local political and issue campaigns. \n  \n  \n  \nBen Higgins will speak against Proposition 50. Ben is the Director of Agricultural Operations for the Hearst Corporation\, a former SLO Chamber Board member\, and President of the SLO Cattlemen’s Political Action Committee. \n\nLOCAL IMPACTS OF TARIFFS \nWith regularly changing policies at the federal level\, tariffs are making it harder to do business and more difficult to plan for the future. LynAnne Wilton\, store manager at Humankind Fair Trade for more than 12 years\, will join us onstage to share how the tariffs have impacted the business and what the local impacts actually are. \n\n \nHEY BATTER BATTER \nIf you’ve been keeping up with the new Women’s Pro Baseball League\, you may know that the Cal Poly women’s club baseball founder and pitcher made the cut of the 150 players eligible for the upcoming league draft. Arwen McCullough will join us to share about the August tryouts in D.C. and her passion for baseball. \n\nCAL POLY MARCHING BAND \nThe 210-member strong Pride of the Pacific Mustang Marching Band is an organization of Cal Poly students who perform at all home football\, volleyball matches\, all men’s and women’s home basketball games\, and special functions throughout the year. \n\nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThank you to all the Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors for 2025: \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nDignity Health \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
