SUMMARY:November Good Morning SLO
DESCRIPTION:Your community newspaper brought to life. \nGood Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas\, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders\, business owners\, nonprofit executives and staffers together\, and enables us to reconnect\, engage and learn from each other. \nOur goal is to provide insight into business\, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives. \nGood Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. \n  \nThank you to this month’s featured sponsor: \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nFEATURING \nA NEW CHAPTER \nAfter a successful search\, the SLO Chamber is excited to welcome Garret Olson to the team as the President and CEO. Hillary Trout\, the Chair of the Chamber’s CEO Search Committee\, will join us on Tuesday morning to dive into what the search process looked like and the work that went into selecting our new leader. \n\nTHE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF FOOD \nThe recent federal government shutdown brought the importance of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program\, or SNAP\, into the spotlight. More than 25\,000 people rely on SNAP benefits in San Luis Obispo County\, and Molly Kern will join us to dive into the huge economic impact the program has on our regional food economy. \n\nLIFELONG LEARNING \nWho says your educational path has to end at graduation? There are countless learning opportunities in our region\, and Wes Martin\, Cuesta’s Director of Continuing and Community Education\, will join us to share about the school’s community education programs. From ukulele lessons to aquatics\, marketing classes to creative writing\, there’s something for everyone to lean into learning. \n\nMEATHEAD MOVERS \nAfter a nearly decade-long battle between his company\, Meathead Movers\, and the federal government\, Aaron Steed has finally brought the issue to a resolution. Aaron will join us onstage to share some of the key takeaways from his experience and some words of wisdom about what other business owners should know. \n\nWAVES OF BELONGING \nSurfing has historically been a sport dominated by white men\, but the culture has been shifting over the past few decades. Lydia Heberling co-edited a newly released book\, Waves of Belonging: Indigeneity\, Race\, and Gender in the Surfing Lineup\, that dives into surfing as a longtime Indigenous practice\, and she’ll join us at Good Morning SLO to share more. \n\nHAPPY HOLIDAYS \nAs the most festive time of year approaches\, families are gearing up to ride the Christmas train at Santa Margarita Ranch. The real\, historic narrow gauge steam trains take passengers to Santa’s Village amidst carolers\, a holiday craft marketplace and more\, and Steve Rossi will share all about what’s behind the Christmas magic. \n\nTHE NUTCRACKER \nSLO Civic Ballet will give us a sneak peak of its 48th season of Lorilee Silvaggio’s The Nutcracker. Don’t miss this holiday tradition that will be performed live at the PAC with OperaSLO’s Grande Orchestra. \n\nThank you to Popolo Catering and Coastal Peaks Coffee for providing breakfast and coffee at this month’s program. \n            \n  \nThank you to all the Good Morning SLO Annual Sponsors for 2025: \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
