SUMMARY:Breakaway Tours / At Her Table International Expose Wine and Culinary Experience
DESCRIPTION:Join Breakaway Tours Wine and Events on an Ah-Mazing Wine and Culinary Journey through SLO’s Urban Wine Trail — an International Expose delving into wine and grape varieties from Champagne\, Spain\, Burgundy\, and the Rhône — accompanied by gastronomic delights from Peru and Italian & Argentinian-influenced dessert! \nA curated tasting of four wines at each: Club Bubbly\, Croma Vera Wines\, El Lugar Wines\, Rhônedonnée Wines\, Mistura\, and bredaslo. Meet the ladies behind these award-winning brands\, learn their stories and taste the crafts of their trade. \nMeet at Duncan Alley.  You will be greeted by Jill Tweedie\, Founder/Owner of Breakaway Tours\, now entering her 29th year of delivering deliciously fun\, educational wine tours\, and private corporate events. Fresh daily\, from Santa Barbara to Paso Robles and in-between. Boarding will begin for a group transfer to Creamery Marketplace downtown — PLEASE be prompt. We recommend using a Ride-Share service to Duncan Alley. \nIn our opinion\, all great journeys should begin with bubbles. We present a tasting led by Founder/Curator Tracy Bogue of Club Bubbly\, offering Champagnes and Sparkling Wines from around the world — something for every palate and pocketbook. \nNext up\, Lunch at Mistura Restaurant\, owned by Jackeline & Chef Nicola Allegretta\, ranked one of the best restaurants in SLO. Offering an authentic tribute to the diversity of Peruvian food; proposing familiar yet unexpected and adventurous flavors. Also located in the Creamery Marketplace. \nA fantastic 2-for-1 stop! You will meet Florencia Breda of bredaslo (located inside Mistura)\, learn about her fascinating\, diverse background\, and experience her cutting-edge pâtissier skills. A feast for the eyes as well as the sweet tooth! We will be taking chocolates with us to enjoy with wine later! \nFrom here\, you will be transported back to Duncan Alley\, SLO’s own version of Lompoc’s Wine Ghetto & Paso’s Tin City. Urban is where it is happening! \nMeet Mindy Oliver\, owner/winemaker at Croma Vera — “A tiny (but mighty) winery making damn good wine\,” with a focus on small-lot production. They are wildly meticulous about the quality and sourcing of every grape. Their Spanish-inspired wines include Tempranillo\, Albariño\, and Garnacha. \nMoving on to El Lugar (The Place)\, we will join Katie Noonan\, owner/marketer\, and wife of Coby Parker-Garcia\, owner/winemaker. Their passion is Pinot Noir\, vineyard-designated to be precise. Currently offering 5 vineyard-designate Pinots along with Pinot Noir Blanc\, Rosé of Pinot Noir\, and a Syrah. \n  \nWrapping up the day with Kirsten Thom of Rhônedonnée\, owner & curator of fun and married to Aaron Guerrero\, owner/winemaker. They are dedicated to creating wines that emulate and honor Rhône; old-world style wines with the use of Central Coast fruit & terroir.

SUMMARY:“What Holocaust?” with Goldie Jacoby
DESCRIPTION:Today\, on Holocaust Remembrance Day\, marks the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Last January\, Chabad of SLO & Cal Poly presented a truly incredible event with 100-year-old Holocaust survivor Joe Alexander at the PAC to a crowd of 1\,200 people. \nThey have just announced that they will be bringing Holocaust survivor Goldie Jacoby to the PAC in March. Goldie Jacoby\, shown above holding the apron her mother made her for her sixth birthday\, was just five years old when her family went into hiding in Poland. Jacoby and her 10 family members hid in a tiny pigsty in a barn for nearly three years and were some of the only survivors from their town in Poland. Hear her incredible story of triumph\, hope\, and courage through one of the darkest times in history. \nBehind every Holocaust survivor is an incredible story of determination\, struggle\, and loss\, as well as a journey of the triumph of survival. As data shows rising antisemitism and profound ignorance about the Holocaust\, now more than ever\, we must listen carefully to the voices of living survivors of the Shoah. We must share their stories widely\, and use their testimonies to teach future generations\, because those who are ignorant of the past are doomed to repeat it. Hear Goldie Jacoby’s moving story and experiences during one of the darkest times in history. \nGoldie Jacoby was born on May 14\, 1937. She lived with her parents and brother in Katowice\, Poland\, which Nazi Germany annexed in September 1939. In 1942 Goldie’s family visited her grandparents in Frishtak\, a Polish small town\, and found despairing sadness with the Nazis on the march. \nAt just five years old\, Goldie witnessed unforgettable horrors. Running and hiding for survival\, a kind-hearted Christian farmer risked hiding her 10 family members in his barn for almost three years until Poland was liberated on January 27\, 1945. \n*This event is free for Cal Poly students\, but a ticket is required for entry.
