SUMMARY:Cal Poly to Exhibit Photographs by Clint Baclawski
DESCRIPTION:An exhibit titled “Lush\,” featuring the work of photographer Clint Baclawski\, will open in the University Gallery in the Dexter Building (No. 34) at Cal Poly. \n“Instead of using gallery lights to illuminate a flat image on a wall\, Clint’s photos emanate light from within\, giving them a substance that is normally associated with sculpture\,” said gallery specialist Garet Zook. “The light spectrum that moves through the prints fills the room with its luminescence\, creating a space that is in its entirety an experience.” \nThis exhibition represents Baclawski’s most ambitious work to date. The University Art Gallery will be filled with 64 panels of 128 LED bulbs. The 128 linear feet of images were photographed near Boston and feature blades of grass on a soccer field. The entire image captures the length of the field; corner post to corner post. Within the room\, visitors will see a full range of color variants\, including the lushest greens and the bluest of blue skies\, ending in negative colors; purple and yellow with a full black-and-white transition in between. \nThe University Art Gallery is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. It is located on the ground floor near the entrance to the Dexter Building.

SUMMARY:Cal Poly Arts Presents Jeff Daniels and the Ben Daniels Band
DESCRIPTION:We all know Jeff Daniels as the Emmy Award-winning actor from “The Newsroom” and as a film actor in such hits as Dumb & Dumber and the highly-anticipated Steve Jobs movie. On Wednesday\, November 4\, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center\, Cal Poly Arts presents the actor in a whole different light when he straps on his guitar and leads an evening with JEFF DANIELS AND THE BEN DANIELS BAND.\n“The guy can finger-pick a nimble lead on guitar. He can growl a blues vocal or croon a gentle ballad. He writes songs that are funny\, poignant\, melodic and catchy…(Jeff) Daniels is a legit musician!” (Toledo City Paper)\nJeff Daniels has spent the past 12 years performing independently at venues throughout the country. He has shared the stage with Lyle Lovett\, John Hiatt and Keb Mo’ – and of course\, has often played with his son’s group\, The Ben Daniels Band.\n“When I moved to New York City to chase acting as a career\, what I didn’t plan on was being influenced by all the playwrights I would work with Off-Broadway. In particular\, Lanford Wilson – who would later go on to win a Pulitzer Prize for his play\, Talley’s Folly – taught me so much about the writing process: the love/hate relationship one has with such a solitary pursuit\, the endless rewriting\, the search and struggle to find a way to say it better. In Hollywood\, the joke is ‘Ask any actor what he wants to do next and he’ll say\, “Direct.”’ All I wanted to do was write. So I did. Almost 40 years later\, I still am.”\nFrom their opening song to the finale of their set\, the Ben Daniels Band cuts through with their originality\, musicianship\, and a sound that spans Americana\, blues\, jazz\, and rock. Throughout years of touring\, the group has played notable venues while on tour to New York City\, Washington D.C.\, and Nashville. Their songs have become anthems\, with arrangements that pull people inside their sound. With five CDs under their belts\, the Ben Daniels Band has grown to be a formidable group that sounds pleasantly familiar\, yet unforgettably unique. \nStudent and adult tickets for the performance range from $22.40 to $48 and may be purchased in advance at the Performing Arts Center Ticket Office\, Monday – Saturday\, noon to 6 p.m\, located on Grand Avenue on the Cal Poly campus.\nTICKETS: 805/756-4TIX (4849) or order online at www.calpolyarts.org.\nSponsored by Jim & Cheryl Conway\, Barb & Howard Ignatius\, Roy & Linda Rawlings\, KSBY TV\nFor more information on all Cal Poly Arts events\, including audio and video samples\, please visit www.calpolyarts.org.
