SUMMARY:Cal Poly Poinsettia Sale
DESCRIPTION:More than 2\,800 plants in more than 30 different varieties and colors will be available for purchase during Cal Poly’s annual poinsettia sale\, which kicks off at the Poly Plant Shop Holiday Sale from Friday to Sunday\, Dec. 4-6. The sale runs through mid-December. \nThe flowering holiday plants are grown by students in the university’s Poinsettia Agriculture Enterprise Project\, which begins every spring. Six students\, all majoring in agricultural and environmental plant sciences\, are overseeing the enterprise project: Ricky Lopez\, Kelsey Russell\, Sonny Bergin\, Killian Vendler\, Brennan Roy\, and Jordan Collins. Professor Virginia Walter is the project advisor.  \nThis year’s poinsettia project offers varieties with unusual leaf forms\, some with traditional red and white flowers\, and many novelty colors\, including pink\, orange\, marble\, maroon and speckled. Sizes range from small plants in four-inch pots to large poinsettias reaching four feet high. Prices are $5 to $55.  \nIn addition to poinsettias\, student-made wreaths\, centerpieces\, succulents\, ornaments and gifts will be sold during the holiday sale. Poinsettia project students will be on hand during the event to advise customers about caring for their purchases.  \nThe Poly Plant Shop is located on campus off Via Carta Road and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

SUMMARY:Cal Poly Choirs to Present ‘A Christmas Celebration’
DESCRIPTION:Under the direction of music Professor Thomas Davies\, PolyPhonics\, the University Singers\, and the Cal Poly Early Music Ensemble will perform holiday favorites and new works.\nThe Cal Poly Brass Ensemble\, conducted by Christopher J. Woodruff\, will add to the festive performances. Staff members Susan Azaret Davies and Paul Woodring will accompany the choirs and perform solo works for piano and organ.\nRepertoire will include celebratory works of the season\, including William Mathais’ “A Babe is Born\,” Samuel Barber’s “Twelfth Night\,” John Gardner’s “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day\,” Norman Dello Joio’s “The Holy Infant’s Lullaby\,” and Moses Hogan’s “Glory\, Glory\, Glory to the Newborn King.”\nA composition by Cal Poly music major Corey Hable\, titled “O magnum mysterium\,” will be premiered as a highlight of the evening.\nThe always-popular “Christmas Cameos” and the choirs’ traditional “Silent Night” arranged by Malcolm Sargent will round out the program. Audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a carol sing-along.\nTickets to the concert are $14 and $18 for the public and $9 and $14 for students. Pricing includes all Performing Arts Center fees\, and event parking is sponsored by the PAC. Tickets are sold at the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To order by phone\, call SLO-4TIX (756-4849).\nThe Music Department offers a 10 percent discount to patrons who buy season tickets to four of its events through the Cal Poly Ticket Office; a 15 percent discount is given on tickets to five or more events.

SUMMARY:San Luis Obispo Blues Society Christmas Dance Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join the San Luis Obispo Blues Society for a holiday celebration featuring Carolyn Wonderland. Holiday Harp Blowdown with Back Bay Betty will be opening the show. Tickets are $20 for Blues Society members and $25 for the general public. Tickets are sold at the door\, and may also be purchased at Boo Boo Records and Cheap Thrills in San Luis Obispo. SLO Dance offers free dance lessons at 7:30 pm. 21 and over please. \nThe Blues Society runs primarily on volunteers to produce and staff our concerts. At the shows\, volunteers set up\, sell tickets and drinks\, or clean up after the show. Volunteers get free admission to the show and two drink tickets.
