SUMMARY:Cal Poly Poinsettia Sale
DESCRIPTION:More than 2\,800 plants in more than 30 different varieties and colors will be available for purchase during Cal Poly’s annual poinsettia sale\, which kicks off at the Poly Plant Shop Holiday Sale from Friday to Sunday\, Dec. 4-6. The sale runs through mid-December. \nThe flowering holiday plants are grown by students in the university’s Poinsettia Agriculture Enterprise Project\, which begins every spring. Six students\, all majoring in agricultural and environmental plant sciences\, are overseeing the enterprise project: Ricky Lopez\, Kelsey Russell\, Sonny Bergin\, Killian Vendler\, Brennan Roy\, and Jordan Collins. Professor Virginia Walter is the project advisor.  \nThis year’s poinsettia project offers varieties with unusual leaf forms\, some with traditional red and white flowers\, and many novelty colors\, including pink\, orange\, marble\, maroon and speckled. Sizes range from small plants in four-inch pots to large poinsettias reaching four feet high. Prices are $5 to $55.  \nIn addition to poinsettias\, student-made wreaths\, centerpieces\, succulents\, ornaments and gifts will be sold during the holiday sale. Poinsettia project students will be on hand during the event to advise customers about caring for their purchases.  \nThe Poly Plant Shop is located on campus off Via Carta Road and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

DESCRIPTION:Take It SLO\, a Cal Poly a cappella ensemble\, will present its annual Holiday Concert at 1 and 7 p.m. Sunday\, Dec. 6\, in Room 218 in the Davidson Music Center (Building 45) on campus.\nThe 13-member vocal ensemble will perform a variety of songs designed to raise the holiday spirit\, plus some new works and old favorites\, all arranged by students. DESCRIPTION:Nearly 300 students will perform at Cal Poly’s annual Bandfest. The concert will feature Cal Poly’s Wind Orchestra\, Wind Ensemble\, and the Mustang Marching Band in an evening of bold and powerful works for the modern wind band and the traditional stadium marching band.\nThe Wind Orchestra will perform “Alleluia! Laudamus Te” by Alfred Reed\, “On This Bright Morning” by David Maslanka\, and Robert Jager’s “Third Suite.”\nThe Wind Ensemble will continue the concert with performances of “Ecstatic Fanfare” by Steven Bryant\, “October” by Eric Whitacre\, “Angels in the Architecture” by Frank Ticheli and “The ‘Gum-Suckers’ March” by Percy Grainger.\nThe Wind Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble will combine forces with a work especially suited to a concert band of more than 135 performers: Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”\nThe Mustang Band will conclude the concert with arrangements they are performing at this fall’s football games in Spanos Stadium. Along with traditional favorites\, the band will perform popular hits such as Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” and music from the James Bond and “Mission Impossible” movie series.\nTickets to the concert are $12 and $14 for the public and $9 and $12 for students. Pricing includes all Performing Arts Center fees; event parking is sponsored by the PAC. Tickets are sold at the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
