SUMMARY:Cal Poly to Present Bach Week\, "The Role of the Evangelist in Bach's 'Passions'"
DESCRIPTION:Bach Week features a range of events\, including a chamber music performance incorporating period instruments and a collaborative performance of large vocal and instrumental works by students and professionals. Free demonstrations and lectures provide additional context for these performances. \nThe event\, a presentation titled “The Role of the Evangelist in Bach’s ‘Passions\,'” will be at 11:10 a.m. Jan. 21 in Room 218 in the Davidson Music Center on campus. Guest artist Christopher M. Cock has performed the role of the Evangelist numerous times throughout Europe and the U.S. and will offer great insight into what it takes to deliver such a role. \nAt 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 21 in Room 218 in the Davidson Music Center\, Chicago-based baritone Daniel Eifert will give a vocal master class focusing on musical interpretation. Several Cal Poly voice students will present works to be discussed. \nAdmission to the campus events is free.  \nTickets are sold at the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. These 19 movements are easy to learn\, and the practice can be a lifelong journey of self-knowledge. Carol Nelson-Selby is a former lawyer and has been doing Tai Chi for over 15 years. Her love for this work and the movements is evident in her gentle teaching style.
